BIG BALLET (ABC, New!) - Liz Heldens ("Deception") has sold a scripted take on the U.K. reality series to the Alphabet. Said effort, which has a significant penalty attached and will be set in Detroit, centers on "a flamboyant retired ballet dancer and a reluctant prima ballerina who work to assemble a troupe of dancers of all shapes and sizes to perform Swan Lake." Rare Day's Emily Renshaw-Smith and Peter Dale as well as Sue Naegle also serve as executive producers for TriStar Television. (Deadline.com)

DOUBT (CBS/CBSP; W: Joan Rater & Tony Phelan; D: Adam Bernstein) - Steven Pasquale ("The Good Wife") has been tapped as the new male lead on the drama pilot, about a smart, successful 30-something defense attorney (Katherine Heigl) who shockingly falls for one of her clients who may or may not be guilty of a brutal crime. He'll play "the decent, altruistic pediatric surgeon Billy, who may or may not be guilty of murdering a 15-year-old girl many years ago." Pasquale takes over from Teddy Sears in the original pilot. Production has likewise shifted from New York to Los Angeles. Dreama Walker, Dule Hill, Elliott Gould, Kobi Libii and Laverne Cox also star. (Deadline.com)

JURY, THE (ABC, New!) - V.J. Boyd and Mark Bianculli are set to team for a new drama at the Alphabet which "follows a single murder trial a season as seen through the eyes of the individual jurors, exploring the biases and experiences that influence the jurors' judgment, and how their preconceptions change along the way." Sony Pictures Television-based Carol Menselsohn Productions is behind the project, which has a significant penalty attached. Boyd, Mendelsohn and Julie Weitz will executive produce with Bianculli as a co-executive producer. (Deadline.com)

TRAIL, THE (NBC, New!) - Jeff Astrof and Matt Miller are likewise teaming up for a new single-camera comedy billed as "spoof of crime documentaries" about "the arrest and trial of a beloved poetry professor from a small town in South Carolina, who is accused of brutally murdering his wife, and the young Northeastern lawyer hired to defend him." The project has a put pilot commitment with said duo executive producing for Warner Bros. Television. (Deadline.com)
