Entertainment Weekly's #2 TV show of 2014
is back for a third season
SundanceTV's critically-acclaimed "Rectify" begins production
New York, New York - February 20, 2015 - SundanceTV announced today that production has commenced on the third season of its original drama series "Rectify." The hour-long episodic drama was created and written by WGA Award-nominated Ray McKinnon (The Accountant, "Deadwood", "Sons of Anarchy"). It is executive produced by McKinnon, as well as Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein, the award-winning producers behind "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul." It begins shooting Monday, February 23, and production will, once again, take place in Griffin, Georgia, near Atlanta. The new season, 6x60, will air in Summer 2015.
Entertainment Weekly cited "Rectify" as the #2 Television Show of 2014, and it appeared on many "Best of 2014" lists, including TIME, Los Angeles Times, Variety, Huffington Post, Vox and Grantland. Alan Sepinwall of HitFix characterized Rectify as "one of the most spiritually rich and thoughtful shows anywhere on television at the moment" and Daily Beast's Jason Lynch called it "an emotional marathon unmatched by anything else on television."
"Rectify" follows the life of Daniel Holden (Aden Young), recently released from prison after serving nineteen years on death row for the rape and murder of his teenage girlfriend. When DNA evidence casts doubt on his conviction, Holden returns to his family and his hometown where the murder occurred and where many still believe he is guilty. Daniel spent all of his adult life waiting to die; now he must learn how to live again or decide if he even wants to while others determine whether or not he will have that chance.
Season 3 picks up where Season 2 left off, on the very afternoon of Daniel's plea deal. Will the deal be accepted? Will Daniel be forced to leave town? And when the body of a missing person is discovered, law enforcement once again turns to him for answers. Amantha attempts to have a life outside of Daniel's situation and is offered a promotion at Thrifty Town. Tawney and Ted Jr., meantime, struggle to decide if their marriage has a future. As they both delve into their pasts for answers, parental ghosts abound which may help them understand how to navigate the present.
"Rectify" stars Aden Young (Killer Elite, The Tree) as Daniel Holden; Abigail Spencer (Cowboys and Aliens, "True Detective") as Amantha Holden, Daniel Holden's younger sister who's devoted her entire adult life to securing his release; J. Smith Cameron ("True Blood", Margaret) as Janet Talbot, Daniel's loving mother, who has been living with the impending death of her son for nineteen years; Luke Kirby (Take This Waltz, "Show Me A Hero") as Jon Stern, Daniel's lawyer who works for an organization dedicated to exonerating the wrongfully convicted; Clayne Crawford (A Walk to Remember, "24") as Ted Talbot, Jr., Daniel's stepbrother whom he had never previously met; Adelaide Clemens (Silent Hill: Revelation 3D, The Great Gatsby) as Tawney Talbot, Ted's kind-hearted wife; Bruce McKinnon (Lawless, "The Wronged Man") as Daniel's step father Ted Sr. and Jake Austin Walker (The Chaperone) as Daniel's half-brother Jared.
