In an industry obsessed with youth, AARP's Movies for Grownups column was developed in 2002 by the editors of AARP The Magazine who deliberately sought to draw attention to great films that featured actors, directors or plot themes that spoke to moviegoers over 50 years old. The annual Awards winners are published in the February/March issue of AARP The Magazine and are celebrated at AARP's annual Movies for Grownups Awards gala each February in Los Angeles.
AARP's 14th Annual Movies for Grownups Awards gala raised over $100,000 for the AARP Foundation, AARP's affiliated charity, which works in communities across the nation to help struggling older adults meet their basic need for nutritious food, safe and affordable housing, adequate income and much-needed personal connections.
