SATURDAY NIGHTS ARE A FAMILY AFFAIR ON OWN WITH "DEION'S FAMILY PLAYBOOK" AND "FLEX & SHANICE" PREMIERING NOVEMBER 1
Los Angeles - Saturday nights on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network will be packed with family and fun this fall with the return of the popular docu-series "Deion's Family Playbook" on November 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT followed by the series premiere of "Flex & Shanice" at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
"Deion's Family Playbook," which became the highest rated freshman docu-series in network history, features the real-life story of celebrated sports legend Deion Sanders as he raises 10 kids with the help of his devoted mom Connie and longtime girlfriend, Hollywood producer Tracey Edmonds. In the new episodes, Deion's crazy life is turned upside down when he sells his house and starts the process of moving to South Dallas to be closer to his beloved school, Prime Prep Academy, where he serves as founder and head football coach. Change becomes the new normal as his household struggles to leave the mansion they call home and acclimate to a downsized living situation. Tracey is also busier than ever as she tries to juggle the upcoming move in Dallas, with producing a new film and preparing for her first TV hosting gig in Los Angeles, which creates additional challenges for their already long-distance relationship.
"Deion's Family Playbook" is produced by Edmonds Entertainment, Prime Time Media Ventures and Rogue Atlas Productions in association with Lionsgate Television. Executive producers are Tracey E. Edmonds, Eli Frankel and Deion Sanders. Co-executive producer is Rob Cornick.
"Flex & Shanice" follows the lives of husband and wife duo, actor Flex Alexander ("One on One"), '90s pop singer Shanice ("I Love Your Smile") and their extended family all living together under one roof. A special sneak preview of the show last May delivered double-digit growth (+25%) in the network's key women 25-54 demo in the time period versus one year ago. The special was also the night's #1 cable telecast (non-sports) for African-American women. From the outside looking in, Flex and Shanice are living the dream - they are beautiful celebrities with a long-standing marriage, gorgeous kids and a lovely home in suburbia. But what this fairytale couple has been hiding from the world is that they have been teetering on the edge of financial ruin for the past five years. So they moved their hilarious extended family in to help make ends meet, but nine people under one roof can add just as much stress as it relieves. We watch as Flex tries to rebuild the stand-up career that he abandoned 18 years ago, and Shanice as she heads back into the studio attempting to restart her R&B career. The family will try to hold it together as they aim to capture that one big break to help turn their luck around.
"Flex & Shanice" is executive produced by Jeff Dyson and Vernon Lynch for Lynch-Dyson Entertainment, Julie Pizzi and Patty Ivins.
