New Docuseries "Surgeon Oz" Featuring Emmy-Winning Dr. Oz Premieres Thursday, October 23 on OWN

Los Angeles - The new docuseries "Surgeon Oz" featuring Emmy award-winning cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz of "The Dr. Oz Show" will premiere Thursday, October 23 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.

In this unprecedented ten-part series, "Surgeon Oz" follows the world renowned surgeon and celebrated talk show host, Dr. Oz, behind the scenes into the operating room of one of the most respected hospitals, NewYork-Presbyterian Columbia University Medical Center. Continuing a three-decade career that has been his passion since long before he became a household name, Dr. Oz performs real life miracles and 100 heart operations annually. In "Surgeon Oz," Dr. Oz helps save his patients' lives and connects with their families in emotional moments surrounding serious procedures that could mean life or death.

"Surgeon Oz" executive producers are Terence Wrong and Morgan Hertzan from ABC's Lincoln Square Productions.

*PREMIERE* Two back-to-back episodes "Desperate Utterance" airing Thursday, October 23 from 10-10:30 p.m. ET/PT, followed by "One Shot" airing Thursday, October 23 from 10:30-11 p.m. ET/PT In an intimate moment in the operating room, Dr. Oz offers strength to a mother of two who is having emergency heart surgery. During the operation Dr. Oz is stunned by a harmful growth that he's never seen before, which further complicates the procedure. In the second half hour, Dr. Oz encounters unexpected challenges when he operates on a World War II veteran who needs a risky valve replacement surgery.

"My Brave One" airing Thursday, October 30 from 10-10:30 p.m. ET/PT When a New Jersey motorcycle cop suffers an unexpected stroke, it's up to Dr. Oz to repair a hole in his heart.

"Never Go Back" airing Thursday, November 6 from 10-10:30 p.m. ET/PT Dr. Oz performs a quadruple bypass operation on a Vietnam veteran and former drug user, but first the patient must make good on his promise to quit smoking before surgery.

"To My Children" airing Thursday, November 13 from 10-10:30 p.m. ET/PT Dr. Oz operates on a young mother who has a genetic heart defect and has to stop her heart to make the repair. Later, Dr. Oz's youngest daughter, Zoe, who is interested in following in her father's footsteps with a career in the medical field, visits the OR to observe her father in his element.

Future episodes will feature a newlywed who needs to replace his aortic valve in order to make it to his one-year anniversary; and Dr. Oz faces an ethical dilemma when a patient in heart failure asks to remove a heart pump that's keeping him alive; and a challenging case with a patient who needs not one, but two heart valves replaced.
