ASCENSION (Syfy/Lionsgate/UCP; W: Philip Levens; D: TBA) - Brandon P. Bell, Tiffany Lonsdale and Jacqueline Byers are the latest additions to the event series, about a covert space mission sending hundreds of men, women and children on a century-long voyage aboard the starship Ascension to populate a new world, assuring the survival of the human race. Nearly 50 years into the journey, as they approach the point of no return, the mysterious murder of a young woman causes the ship's population to question the true nature of their mission. Bell will play "the confident and capable First Officer Oren Gault, who was born to maintenance workers on the lower decks"; with Lonsdale as Chief Astronomer Emily Vanderhaus, "the murder victim's older sister whose rocky marriage with Safety Officer Duke Vanderhaus will be put to the test by this family tragedy"; and Byers as Nora Bryce, "who is under intense familial pressure to follow her mother by apprenticing at the medical center but instead finds herself drawn to the Terraforming Department and the promise of building a new world." Brian Van Holt and Tricia Helfer also star. (Deadline.com)
GALYNTINE (AMC; W: Jason Cahill; D: Greg Nicotero) - Alex Russell (Chronicle) has scored a role on the drama pilot, which takes place at a time after a cataclysmic technology-induced disaster has resulted in a new society that has eschewed any form of technology. He's on board as Roman, "an orphan who was unofficially adopted by his best friend Aethys' family, and he hopes to marry Aethys' sister Essyn to make his membership in the family official." Also starring are Charlotte D'Ambroise, Catherine Dent and Peter Fonda. (Deadline.com)
PANTS ON FIRE (Disney XD, New!) - Bradley Steven Perry, Joshua Ballard and Tyrel Jackson Williams are set to star in a new original movie at the network about "15-year-old Jack Parker (Perry) who has always skated by on his lies; Jack's best friend, Ryan (Ballard); and Mikey (Williams), a nonexistent teen whom Jack makes up and claims he is tutoring to provide an excuse for tardiness, avoiding chores and homework, and general mayhem. It's a seemingly great plan until one day Mikey shows up in Jack's life for real, as do all of his other lies, including his possessive girlfriend and a duo of alien body-snatchers." Jon Rosenbaum is directing from a script by Alex Cramer with Two 4 the Money Media's Kim Arnott executive producing alongside MarVista Entertainment's Fernando Szew and Robyn Snyder. (THR.com)
RED OAKS (Amazon; W: Greg Jacobs & Joe Gangemi; D: David Gordon Green) - Craig Roberts (Submarine) has snagged the lead role on the comedy pilot, set in the summer of 1985 and follows 20-year-old David Myers (Roberts) who takes a job as an assistant tennis pro at the predominantly Jewish Red Oaks country club in New Jersey and tries to figure out what kind of life he wants to lead. Paul Reiser, Jennifer Grey, Ennis Esmer, Richard Kind and Gage Golightly also star. (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - MacKenzie Porter is bound for "Hell on Wheels" as Cullen's young Mormon bride, Naomi, succeeding Siobhan Williams from last season (EW.com); and Gangster Squad helmer Ruben Fleischer has closed a two-year overall deal with Universal Television (Deadline.com).
