AVENUE OF SPIES (WGN America, New!) - Andrea Berloff (World Trade Center) is developing a new drama at the network "set in Nazi-occupied Paris on the eve of World War II, chronicles the true story of an American-born doctor and his family who fall in with the French Resistance, spying from their home just doors away from the Gestapo headquarters and one of Hitler's most feared SS captains." Sony Pictures Television is behind the project, which is based on Alex Kershaw's forthcoming novel of the same name. Graham Yost ("Justified") is also on board as an executive producer, as are Judith Venro and Television 360's Meghan Lyvers, Jill McElroy and Ben Forkner. Kershaw himself will receive a co-executive producer credit. (THR.com)
OPEN CITY (HBO, New!) - Director Adam Shankman (Rock of Ages) and screenwriter David Kajganich (The Invasion) are set to team for a new period drama at the pay channel, which "explores characters from disparate corners of Manhattan as they navigate the cultural revolutions and political turmoil of the [late 1960s], including the unlikely alliance between the Mafia and the city's gay community in the opening of a West Village nightclub." Ronnie Lorenzo, "one of the original owners of the Stonewall Inn, the epicenter of the 1969 Stonewall riots that sparked America's gay rights movement," is aboard as a consulting producer. Shankman's Warner Horizon Television-based Offspring Entertainment producing partner Jennifer Gibgot will also serve as an executive producer. (Deadline.com)
