SCIENCE CHANNEL UNVEILS ITS 2014-15 UPFRONT SLATE, LED BY AN UNPRECEDENTED RACE TO THE MOON

Science Channel and Discovery Channel Named the Exclusive Television Homes of the Google Lunar XPRIZE with a Live Broadcast Scheduled From the Moon

(New York, NY ) Science Channel ignites a new generation of viewers with its 2014-15 Upfront programming slate that builds on the network's most-watched year in primetime and total day in 2013, its most-watched primetime quarter in 1Q14, and its most-watched primetime month in March 2014. Featuring a wealth of new programs, live specials and returning series, the line-up feeds those who possess a passion to explore the unknown, who are unafraid to challenge perspective, and who are completely dedicated to seeking truth through science.

A world premiere live event headlines Science Channel's slate as the network and Discovery Channel announced today that they will be exclusive television homes to the Google Lunar XPRIZE in 2015. The Google Lunar XPRIZE is the largest international incentive-based prize of all time, offering a $30 million reward for the safe landing of a private, unmanned spacecraft on the moon. Science Channel and Discovery Channel will chronicle the historic race with a miniseries event following 18 teams from around the world as they compete to land safely on the surface of the moon and transmit a live picture back to Earth before the prize's deadline of December 31, 2015. The networks will follow the entire process including testing, lift-off, and live coverage of the winning lunar landing, which is estimated to take place in 2015.

"Science has never been a bigger part of the social consciousness, generating widespread buzz and conversation about space tourism, delivery drones and wearable technology like Google Glass," said Eileen O'Neill, Group President, Discovery Channel, Science Channel and Velocity. "As the only network dedicated entirely to science programming, Science Channel is uniquely positioned to deliver entertaining television that ignites their imaginations. This season's Upfront lineup explores all that science has to offer, from unexplained phenomena and biblical mysteries to alien life and backyard scientists."

Following up on the critically-acclaimed scripted movie THE CHALLENGER DISASTER, Science Channel, in cooperation with the BBC, is developing its second scripted film, SPIES OF LOS ALAMOS, targeted for the third quarter of 2015. This thriller is set against the intense backdrop of 1940s World War II and the creation of America's biggest military secret ever - the atom bomb. In the New Mexico desert the Army had assembled the world's brightest minds, but right under their noses four spies were feeding secrets to the enemy that could change the course of world history. SPIES OF LOS ALAMOS is the story of the men who would stop at nothing to find them.

Late night star Craig Ferguson is lending his passion for science as executive producer of I F-ING LOVE SCIENCE. Inspired by "I Fucking Love Science," the Facebook page with 11 million likes, this all-new series attempts to prove a grand, outlandish thesis that takes viewers on twists and turns through the big and small things of science. I F-ING LOVE SCIENCE follows one inalienable truth - that jaw-dropping, mind-blowing, science is present in everything.

Joining I F-ING LOVE SCIENCE are a number of all-new series for 2014-15. ALIEN UNIVERSE WITH BRIAN COX reunites viewers with Professor Brian Cox from the Peabody Award-winning series WONDERS OF THE UNIVERSE. This time Cox seeks answers to the biggest questions about humanity and the cosmos as he gets to the heart of both alien and human life in this all-new series. Finding out more about alien life requires us to know more about the stars, planets, moons, minerals, asteroids, black holes and more. The all-new series STRIP THE COSMOS uses stunning CGI to strip down - layer by layer - the stuff that makes up space to reveal the destiny, origins and structure of the universe. Without satellites gathering information in the deep darkness of space our knowledge of the universe would be very limited. Science Channel is celebrating manmade satellites by bringing each to life in the all-new series MY LIFE AS A SATELLITE where, using a first-person account, viewers will learn about the untold and under-celebrated stories of NASA and science of the universe.

Science Channel is also bringing back several fan favorites this Upfront season including network stalwarts HOW IT'S MADE, which is the official program of Manufacturing Day, and HOW DO THEY DO IT?, as well as the network's annual rite of Thanksgiving, PUNKIN CHUNKIN. As the home for the unexplained and alien programming, Science Channel hits THE UNEXPLAINED FILES and ARE WE ALONE? WEEK return for third and fifth seasons, respectively.
