FRESH OFF THE BOAT (ABC/20th; W: Nahnatchka Khan; D: TBA) - Nahnatchka Khan's single-camera comedy - "set in the 1990s and revolves around a Chinese family that moves to suburban Orlando" - is heading to pilot at the Alphabet. Said effort, based on Eddie Huang's memoir, "centers on hip-hop-loving Eddie, raised by an immigrant father who is obsessed with all things American and an immigrant mother who is often bewildered by white culture. With his father owning and operating an All-American Steakhouse chain, this loving family of FOB ("fresh off the boat") Taiwanese Americans try to live the American dream while still maintaining their cultural identity and sense of family." Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar also serve as executive producers with Huang himself as a producer. (Deadline.com)
GOOD SESSION (CBS/Warner Bros.; W: John Hamburg & Matt Miller; D: TBA) - John Hamburg and Matt Miller's single-camera comedy - about "a happy couple that goes to a therapist to help them decide if they should have a baby but quickly discover they have more to discuss" - has scored a pilot commitment from the Eye. Hamburg is also attached to direct the half-hour, which comes from Warner Bros. Television. (Deadline.com)
MADAM SECRETARY (CBS/CTS; W: Barbara Hall; D: TBA) - The Morgan Freeman-produced drama - which "explores the personal and professional life of a maverick female Secretary of State as she drives international diplomacy, wrangles office politics and balances a complex family life" - has snagged a pilot order from the network. Barbara Hall penned the script for CBS Television Studios with Revelations Entertainment's Freeman, Lori McCreary and Tracy Mercer also serving as executive producers. (Deadline.com)
PUBLIC MORALS (TNT; W/D: Ed Burns) - Austin Stowell (Dolphin Tale) has snagged a role on the drama pilot, about New York City's Public Morals Division circa 1967, "where cops walk the line between morality and criminality as the temptations that come from dealing with all kinds of vice can get the better of them." He'll play Muldoon's (Ed Burns) cousin Sean O'Bannon, "a handsome, tough Irish cop who tries to keep his friends out of trouble." Elizabeth Masucci, Keith Nobbs, Lyndon Smith, Michael Rapaport, Ruben Santiago-Hudson and Wass Stevens also star. (Deadline.com)
SAINT FRANCIS (ABC, New!) - Christopher Moynihan ("Man Up!") is back in business with the Alphabet for a new multi-camera comedy about "a blue-collar, no-nonsense Long Island cop and family man who butts heads with the modern, liberal world when his 29-year-old sister gets pregnant out of wedlock." ABC Studios is behind the hour with Tagline Television's Ron West and Kelly Kulchak executive producing alongside Moynihan. (Deadline.com)
YOUNGER (TV Land; W: Darren Star; D: TBA) - Miriam Shor ("GCB") is the latest to board the single-camera comedy pilot, about Liza (Sutton Foster), a suddenly-single New Jersey housewife and mother in her early 40s who, unable to restart her career, decides to lie about her age and successfully passes herself off as a twentysomething. She's set as Diana, "the high-strung head of PR for Passion Press. Diana is described as a disdainful woman (known as "Trout Pout") who likes to get ahead by standing on the shoulder of her subordinates as she slowly pushes them into the mud." Hilary Duff also stars. (Deadline.com)
