DirecTV's Audience Network Expands Programming Slate with Acclaimed British Series "Black Mirror" and "Secret State"
Winner of the International Emmy Award for Best Mini-Series/TV Movie Series, "Black Mirror" to Debut Nov. 12 Followed by Premiere of "Secret State" Starring Gabriel Byrne
EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Oct. 29, 2013 - DirecTV's Audience Network continues to provide viewers with unconventional, provocative programming with the addition of two celebrated British series, the critically acclaimed, award-winning Black Mirror and the conspiracy thriller Secret State, which will premiere Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET/PT respectively.
From creator Charlie Brooker (Brass Eye, Dead Set), Black Mirror is a contemporary British hybrid of The Twilight Zone and Tales of the Unexpected with stories that tap into the collective unease about our modern world. Each installment of the six-episode mini-series is a sharp, suspenseful, satirical tale with a techno-paranoia bent that explores our modern reality. Black Mirror presents a world where technology has transformed almost every aspect of daily life. Every hour-long, stand-alone episode of the satirical drama features a different cast and provides a social commentary on today's cultural and technological trends.
Secret State, produced by Company Pictures, part of all3medi, stars Gabriel Byrne as Tom Dawkins, the reluctant hero at the heart of this contemporary conspiracy thriller, who finds himself thrust into the spotlight of front-line politics and risks everything by taking on the might of the Establishment. Following a devastating industrial accident that leaves several people dead and raises awkward questions about the safety procedures of the US petrochemical company involved., Dawkins, a man who has a profound belief in transparency and open government, tackles vested interests, financial and military, both domestic and international, in his pursuit to uncover the truth and get justice for the families affected by the disaster.
"Black Mirror is truly unlike any other show that is currently on television, which makes it a perfect fit for Audience," said Chris Long, EVP Entertainment DirecTV. "We are always on the hunt for programming that, like our network, is unique and thought-provoking. We are thrilled to be able to present them with Black Mirror and Secret State."
Black Mirror is Executive Produced by Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones and produced by Barney Reisz for Zeppotron. The series is distributed internationally by Endemol Worldwide Distribution.
