FIVES (FOX, New!) - Shawn Wines has received a script commitment from the network for a new comedy about "a group of people who are excruciatingly average (5 on a scale of 10), coming together to battle daily life in the most image-conscious city in the world: Los Angeles." Warner Bros. Television is behind the half-hour with Kapital Entertainment's Aaron Kaplan also serving as an executive producer. (Deadline.com)
THE KNICK (Cinemax; W: Jack Amiel & Michael Begler; D: Steven Soderbergh) - Eric Johnson, Cara Seymour and Chris Sullivan are the latest to be cast in the upcoming drama, which centers on Knickerbocker Hospital circa 1900 and the groundbreaking surgeons, nurses and staff, who push the bounds of medicine in a time of astonishingly high mortality rates and zero antibiotics. Johnson is set as Everett Gallinger, "the talented, young protégé of The Knick's groundbreaking Chief Surgeon (Clive Owen)"; while Seymour will play Sister Harriet, "an Irish nurse, midwife, and nun who backs down from nothing and no one"; with Sullivan as Cleary, "the Knick's immigrant ambulance driver who has learned to work the streets in order to grab his piece of America's pie." Andre Holland, Juliet Rylance, Eve Hewson and Michael Angarano also star. (Deadline.com)
LOVE IS DEAD (USA/GIT/UCP; W: Zev Borow; D: Lorene Scafaria) - Ben Rappaport ("Outsourced") has scored the lead role on the comedy pilot, about a unique company that specializes in breaking-up romantic relationships - rationally, compassionately, thoroughly - on behalf of those who are willing to pay to not be around when it happens. He'll play Alex who, "after he's dumped by a representative of the agency, vows to find out what it is, specifically, that's wrong with him - by taking a job at the company." Lorene Scafaria is also on board to direct from a script by Borow. (Deadline.com)
THE REVENGERS (The CW, New!) - Rashida Jones and her older sister, Kidada Jones, have sold a new drama to the netlet about "two twenty-something estranged friends in search of love in New York who are reunited after learning that they've been dating the same guy. When their plot to humiliate the two-timer goes viral, they realize the 'payback' business is a lucrative one and set up a clandestine business to continue bringing down the hand of justice for those who have been wronged." "Prep School Confidential" author Kara Taylor will pen the hour, which is set up at the former's Warner Bros. Television-based Le Train Train banner. Rashida Jones, Will McCormack and Daniel Dubiecki will executive produce with Taylor as a co-executive producer and Jeff Grosvenor and Kidada Jones as producers. (THR.com)
UNTITLED RIDDLE & SALAHUDDIN PROJECT (HBO/BVE; W: Bashir Salahuddin & Diallo Riddle; D: Jamie Babbit) - Dorian Missick, Tasie Lawrence and Barry Shabaka Henley have all been cast in the comedy pilot, about "two 30-year old-reporters (Bashir Salahuddin, Diallo Riddle), as they try to make it big in the burgeoning black mecca of contemporary Atlanta, aka the New South." Missick will play Jay, "an ex-Harvard classmate of Bashir and Diallo who has reached fame and success within the community in Atlanta"; with Lawrence as Chloe, a 20-something photographer who is assigned to Bashir and Diallo because her father runs the Atlanta Torch, the newspaper where they work"; and Henley as Buddy, "Chloe's father and Bashir and Diallo's boss."
