"'The Soup' is a leading voice in pop culture commentary with viewers counting on Joel to fill them in on the best of the worst in entertainment each week in a really funny way," said Suzanne Kolb, President E! "We're thrilled to celebrate this milestone event with the show's first ever live episodes, giving fans on both coasts a unique experience and completely unfiltered look inside their beloved show."
Said Joel McHale: "I'm very excited to perform 'The Soup' live. No television show has ever been broadcast this way before. We're very excited to be at the forefront of this incredible technology."
"The Soup" has earned its rightful place in pop culture infamy by delivering sharp-witted humor, clever commentary and hilarious television clips that audiences have grown to love for over a decade. From train wreck celebrity couples to quirky animal hoarders, "The Soup" has become television's answer for a satirical look at the week's biggest headlines in Hollywood and most mockable moments in entertainment.
In addition to weekly episodes, the series has expanded into multiple platforms including: TheSoupTV.com, a stand-alone website which features commentary from "The Soup" writing staff and users, heavy social media integration with Facebook (www.facebook.com/thesoup) and Twitter (@TheSoup), and the interactive "Hall of Fame" video section featuring the greatest moments in "The Soup" history; "The Soup" app which serves as the mobile extension of the series' on-air and online presences, packed with all of the fresh and exclusive digital content to keep fans connected to "The Soup" wherever they are; the recent spin-off special, "The Soup Investigates" hosted by Joel McHale, which dove into the Hollywood vortex to examine pop culture mysteries, celebrity rumors and the most shocking tabloid claims through tongue-in-cheek investigate reporting; and the popular, kinda-sorta-depending-on-how-we-feel annual "The Soup Awards." With an impressive roster of celebrity guest appearances and these ever expanding digital destinations, "The Soup" continues to thrive on the pulse of pop culture while mocking it all the way.
Join in the celebration when "The Soup" airs its 500th episode and celebrates nearly 10 years with Joel McHale as host on Wednesday, August 21st at 10pm only on E!
