Syfy's "Sharknado": Did Twitter Buzz Translate to Ratings?
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- Last night's Syfy original movie "Sharknado" drew all sorts of social media buzz as the program marked the network's most social telecast ever with 387,000 related tweets.

But does that actually translate to ratings? Have a look at the numbers from all of Syfy's original movies this year:

1. End of the World (2/23/13) - 1.855 million viewers, 0.482 million adults 18-49 (0.4 rating)

2. Tasmanian Devils (1/19/13) - 1.753 million viewers, 0.418 million adults 18-49 (0.3 rating)

3. Flying Monkeys (3/9/13) - 1.672 million viewers, 0.464 million adults 18-49 (0.4 rating)

4. Heebie Jeebies (2/9/13) - 1.576 million viewers, 0.424 million adults 18-49 (0.3 rating)

5. Abominable Snowman (1/26/13) - 1.540 million viewers, 0.370 million adults 18-49 (0.3 rating)

6. Battledogs (4/6/13) - 1.520 million viewers, 0.635 million adults 18-49 (0.5 rating)

7. Chupacabra vs. The Alamo (3/23/13) - 1.488 million viewers, 0.443 million adults 18-49 (0.3 rating)

8. Sharknado (7/11/13) - 1.369 million viewers, 0.566 million adults 18-49 (0.4 rating)

9. Independence Day-saster (6/27/13) - 1.264 million viewers, 0.326 million adults 18-49 (0.3 rating)

The answer: "Sharknado" is actually the second least-watched original movie the network has aired in 2013. However, among adults 18-49 "Sharknado" moves up to the number two spot, behind only "Battledogs."
