MILITARY CHANNEL EXPLORES WHAT THE TEXTBOOKS DIDN'T TELL YOU IN NEW SERIES "AMERICA: FACTS VS. FICTION"

-- Hosted by Former Naval Officer and Actor, Jamie Kaler, AMERICA FACTS VS. FICTION Airs Wednesdays at 10PM E/P Beginning July 10 --

(Silver Spring, MD)-History as we generally know it is full of holes or half-truths, and a mother lode of juicy details have been lost, distorted, covered up or simply ignored along the way. Military Channel's new series, AMERICA: FACTS VS. FICTION is on a mission to set the record straight. Hosted by former Naval officer and actor Jamie Kaler (TBS' "My Boys"), AMERICA: FACTS VS. FICTION is a wake-up call about the surprising hidden facts behind the most familiar and beloved stories from our nation's and military's past, filling in the blanks, debunking the occasional myth, and exploring why we sometimes get our own history, well, slightly wrong. Examining the past with a fresh perspective, this all-new series reveals that the "story" of America is just that - and far more remarkable than we ever thought. AMERICA: FACTS VS. FICTION premieres with back-to-back episodes on Wednesday, July 10 at 10 and 10:30 PM E/P, and will premiere regularly Wednesdays at 10 PM E/P beginning July 17 on Military Channel.

"My father was a pilot in WWII, my brother was an Admiral who served in Vietnam, and I became a Naval Officer the year after 'Top Gun' came out. Yes, I have always had amazing timing, which is probably why the Military Channel chose me to host their new show AMERICA: FACTS VS. FICTION," said host, Jamie Kaler. "By combining my love of the military, American history, and witty banter, I will break down the true story behind many American myths and legends. I can promise you that this show will be almost as much fun as my trip to the Philippines during my West Pac in '89. Almost!"

Occasionally, little details don't fit nicely into the broad strokes of our history, so they are altered for the sake of a more compelling narrative. For instance, Paul Revere never galloped through the streets of Boston yelling, "The British are coming!" to warn people of the impending Revolutionary War. And technically, George Washington wasn't the first president of the United States. With no shortage of assumed Americana to debunk, AMERICA: FACTS VS. FICTION reveals the full truths behind the more commonly accepted half-truths, such as insight into the Commander in Chief's most famous mode of transportation, Air Force One, and the reality behind FDR's condition during WWII.

ABOUT JAMIE KALER:

An accomplished actor, writer, and stand-up comic, Jamie Kaler still can't believe he actually gets paid to make people laugh. In his younger years, not thinking acting could be an actual profession, he chose the next best path: Naval Officer. Jamie received a four-year NROTC scholarship to college and decided to use it at the most expensive school he could get into, Boston University.

With his commission from the U.S. Navy in hand, Jamie set off on his first "World Tour" in ports like Hong Kong, Perth, and Bangkok. Realizing he enjoyed Kelly McGillis and a "need for speed" a little bit more than actually being in the Navy, he resigned his commission as a Lieutenant and decided to try acting.

Jamie is best known as Mike Callahan on the critically acclaimed TBS comedy, "My Boys." He recently hosted a show for the Directv channel "On Deck with Jamie and Mike" and you can catch Jamie on his weekly radio show, "Kaler" for Sirius XM, on the Blue Collar Radio channel.

AMERICA: FACTS VS. FICTION is produced by Workaholic Productions, Inc., with Matt Hickey and Luke Ellis as executive producers. For Military Channel, Liz Massie is executive producer, Sara Kozak is senior vice president of production, Kevin Bennett is senior vice president of content strategy, and Henry Schleiff is president and general manager.
