TBS Greenlights "The CeeLo Life" (working title)
Unscripted Series to Follow Five-Time Grammy Winner through Hectic Schedule,
Including Reunion with Legendary Hip-Hop Group Goodie MOB
Chart-topping, Grammy-winning recording artist, entrepreneur and pop culture iconCeeLo Green is coming to TBS in the brand new show The CeeLo Life (working title). TBS has ordered six episodes of the unscripted series, which will follow CeeLo as he tackles not only a packed schedule of producing, recording and performing, but also a creative partnership with his longtime best friends - Big Gipp, Khujoand T-Mo - as they prepare to bring their legendary hip-hop group Goodie Mob back to the world stage.
Set to premiere on TBS in 2014, The CeeLo Life is being produced by Emerald TV Productions, LLC and Rogue Atlas. CeeLo is executive-producing the series with Larry Mestel (CeeLo Green is Loberace), Emerald's Andrew Jameson (Living Lohan) and Rogue Atlas' Eli Frankel (Family Trade).
The CeeLo Life follows world-renowned recording artist CeeLo Green into the next stage of his career, which is ironically a blast from the past. After a long hiatus and the explosion of CeeLo's solo music career, CeeLo now wants to share his success with the best friends with whom he started. Together, they are now bringing their legendary hip-hop group Goodie Mob back into the spotlight with their fifth album, Age Against the Machine, which is set to be released on Aug. 27. They also have a successful Las Vegas headlining gig and an international tour on the horizon. To enjoy this ride of a lifetime, all they have to do is navigate a demanding schedule, the perks and temptations of being at the top of the music game, and twenty years of history together, all while still keeping their friendship intact.
The Goodie Mob revival, however, is just one of the many creative projects on CeeLo's plate. He recently completed a run of performances in the musical spectacular Loberace at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. He's also putting the finishing touches on his fourth album, which is slated for release later this year, and will be seen in the movie Can a Song Save Your Life?, starring Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo and Catherine Keener. And as if that wasn't enough, he is a partner in Emerald TV Productions and serves as Chief Creative Officer for his management company, Primary Wave.
"With his distinctive voice, winning personality and remarkable ability to tap into a wide range of musical styles, CeeLo Green has risen to the top of the music industry," said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). "This new TBS series will give viewers the chance to get to know CeeLo Green, who is without a doubt one of the hardest working men in show business. The CeeLo Life is certain to be a smart, fun and funny journey packed with a lot of great music."
"On behalf of Emerald, we are honored for this opportunity to entertain and extend the life of a long legacy of classic programming at TBS - which in our book stands for The Best Station," said CeeLo. "Atlanta, your native sons, the Goodie Mob, will make us all proud."
