ADOPTED (ABC/20th; W: Andrea Abbate; D: Gail Mancuso) - The Alphabet has passed on the comedy pilot, about Karey (Kelly Preston), the clean-nosed black sheep in a family of petty thieves, drug addicts and narcissists who decides to raise her prison-bound brother's kids along with her adopted black son and give them the normal lives they deserve. Ashley Williams, Ella Anderson, Haley Lu Richardson, Isaac White, Jane Seymour, Rhys Darby and Steve Talley also starred in the single-camera project, from 21 Laps-Adelstein Productions. GOTHICA (ABC/ABC Studios; W: Matt Lopez; D: Anand Tucker) - The drama - about Grace Van Helsing (Janet Montgomery), a woman who discovers the likes of everyone from Victor Frankenstein (Tom Ellis) to Dorian Gray (Chris Egan) exist in modern-day San Francisco while searching for her own identity - won't be moving forward to series. Also starring in the Mark Gordon-produced hour were Emma Booth, Melissa George, Raza Jaffrey, Seth Gabel and Tracie Thoms. (Deadline.com)
KING JOHN (ABC/ABC Studios; T: Jeff Astrof; D: Ted Wass) - The John Leguizamo-led comedy - based on his life as a husband, father and fish out of water on New York's Upper West Side - likewise didn't receive a series commitment from the network. Andrea Savage, Ariela Barer, Elizabeth Peña, Luke Ganalon and Troy Garity also starred in the multi-camera project, from Mandeville Films and Television. (Deadline.com)
MURDER IN MANHATTAN (ABC/ABC Studios; W: Maria Maggenti; D: Cherie Nowlan) - The drama - about a mother and daughter (Annie Potts, Bridget Regan) who team up as amateur sleuths in New York City - also isn't heading to series at the Alphabet. Brendan Hines, Enver Gjokaj and Shirley Rumierk also starred in the project, which was co-produced by DarkFire and Gross Entertainment. (Deadline.com)
SELECTION, THE (The CW/Warner Bros.; W: Elizabeth Craft & Sarah Fain; D: Alex Graves) - The netlet has opted to pass on its second go-round of the pilot, a drama set 300 years in the future about a poor woman, America Singer (Yael Grobglas), who is chosen by lottery to compete to become the next queen of Illea, a war-torn nation. The sprawling ensemble cast also included Anthony Head, Ben Aldridge, Celia Massingham, Louise Lombard, Lucien Laviscount, Melanie Liburd, Michael Malarkey, Peta Sergeant, Sarah Winter and Sean Patrick Thomas. AND IN OTHER NEWS... - NBC has reportedly given its "Ironside" revival a series pickup contingent on landing Ken Sanzel as showrunner (Deadline.com); Cary Elwes and Kristy Swanson will return to "Psych" as Pierre Despereaux and Marlowe Viccellio, respectively (EW.com); F. Murray Abraham and Sarita Choudhury - who play Dar Adal and Saul's estranged wife Mira - have been upped to series regulars on "Homeland" (TVLine.com); and Kiefer Sutherland is in early talks to reprise his role of Jack Bauer on a new "24" limited series with Howard Gordon at the helm (Deadline.com).
