LOS ANGELES, May 7, 2013 - FX is continuing its unprecedented run of acquiring the commercial television premiere rights for top feature films, scoring 10 titles that have been the highest grossing movies in 11 of the first 18 weeks of 2013, announced Chuck Saftler, Executive Vice President, FX Networks and General Manager of FXM.
This week was no different as Iron Man 3, the top movie of 2013 which recorded the second highest opening weekend in history with $174.1 million dollars domestically, joins the FX library as part of an earlier output deal with Marvel. FX, which has the current exclusive window for the Iron Man franchise, scored huge ratings on Sunday night with its telecast of Iron Man 2, which ranked as basic cable's #1 program that night in Total Viewers (3.26 million), Adults 18-49 (1.75 million), Adults 18-34, and Men 18-49 and 18-34.
"I'm really pleased with the quality and variety of films we've acquired so far this year," said Saftler. "Iron Man 3 is a massive success and that franchise has performed incredibly well for our networks. The success of Iron Man 3 along with the other titles we've purchased this year bodes well for future success on our three networks."
The other FX acquired films that won their respective opening week at the box office this year include, Pain and Gain (Paramount), Oblivion (Universal), The Croods (DreamWorks Animation/FOX), A Good Day to Die Hard (FOX), Evil Dead (Sony), Identity Thief (Universal), Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (Paramount), Mama (Universal), and Zero Dark 30 (Sony).
All of these films will join the FX Networks library in mid-to-late 2015.
FX Networks has acquired more of the top-grossing films over the past four years than any basic cable or broadcast network, and its library holds the most commercial television movie premieres of any network.
FX Networks is comprised of FX, FXM, and its new network FXX, which launches on September 2, 2013. FX Networks is a part of the Fox Networks Group.
