TBS Conducts Crowd-Sourced Casting Call to Find "The People's Nerd," One Champion Chosen by Fans to Compete on "King of the Nerds"
TBS's Hit Competition Series Set to Return for Second Season in Early 2014
Calling all nerds: TBS is adding a twist to the hit competition series King of the Nerds. For the show's second season, TBS is going to give fans the chance to cast one of the competitors as "The People's Nerd." The competitor will be chosen through a special crowd-sourced casting call conducted through the show's Facebook page. Once chosen, "The People's Nerd" will compete on King of the Nerds as the champion of the masses.
Hosted by actors Robert Carradine (Revenge of the Nerds, The Long Riders) and Curtis Armstrong (Revenge of the Nerds, Ray), King of the Nerds features competitors from across the nerd spectrum facing challenges that test their intellect, ingenuity, skills and pop-culture prowess. The nerds live together in "Nerdvana," competing first as teams before moving on to individual challenges. In the end, only one competitor will be named the quintessential master of all things nerdy, winning the $100,000 prize.
To be considered as a potential "People's Nerd," King of the Nerds hopefuls must create a video of no more than five minutes in length showcasing their unique nerdiness. Friends, family and fellow nerds will then be able to vote on which nerd they want to see battling for the title in this nerd-tastic competition.
The unique crowd-sourced casting call for "The People's Nerd" will roll out in four phases:
· Now - May 24: Casting videos can be uploaded to the King of the Nerds Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/KingOfTheNerdsTBS). Voting will take place throughout the month, narrowing the field to the Top 10 nerds, who will move on to the next round.
· May 25 - 31: The public will vote for their favorite nerds from among the Top 10.
· June 3-5: The Top 3 nerds will be announced, with one finalist revealed each day on the King of the Nerds Facebook page.
· July: The Top 3 nerds will be flown to Los Angeles to meet with the producers, who will then choose at least one of them to be "The People's Nerd," with a spot in Nerdvana and the chance to compete for the ultimate nerd crown.
Nerds who are interested in competing in the second season of King of the Nerds but do not want to participate in "The People's Nerd" casting can find information about the standard casting process online at http://www.nerdking.net.
King of the Nerds is executive-produced by Ben Silverman, Chris Grant and Jimmy Fox of Electus and Craig Armstrong and Rick Ringbakk of 5X5 Media, as well as Carradine and Armstrong. Electus International, the global distribution arm of Electus, is distributing the series internationally.
