Development Update: Wednesday, March 20
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

GROUND FLOOR (TBS/Warner Bros.; W: Bill Lawrence & Greg Malins; D: Gail Mancuso) - Comedian Rory Scovel has been cast in the comedy pilot, about the "Romeo and Juliet"-esque courtship of Harvard grad Brody (Skylar Astin) and maintenance supervisor Jennifer (Briga Heelan) who work at the same office. He'll play Harvard, "who got his nickname because he attended community college, the only one of his associates to pursue education past high school." James Earl, John C. McGinley and Rene Gube also star in the multi-camera project. (Deadline.com)

HOLDING PATTERNS (NBC/Universal; W: Justin Spitzer; D: TBA) - Robert Buckley has exited the multi-camera comedy pilot, about a group of friends whose lives completely change after they survive a plane crash. He had been set to play the groom's (Humphrey Ker) friend Chad Kirk ("good-looking, a little slick"), a romance novelist. Said departure is reportedly tied to - among other things - that "Buckley looks a lot like Ker, while the producers have been looking for a more dramatic differentiation between the two characters." Chyler Leigh and Kate Lang Johnson also star. (Deadline.com)

TURN (AMC; W: Craig Silverstein; D: Rupert Wyatt) - J.J. Feild (Captain America: The First Avenger) will round out the cast of the pilot, a period drama about New York farmer Abe Woodhull (Jamie Bell), who bands together with a group of childhood friends to form The Culper Ring, an unlikely group of spies who turn the tide in America's fight for independence. He'll play Major John Andre, "head of British counterintelligence in the Revolutionary War." Angus Macfadyen, Burn Gorman, Daniel Henshall, Heather Lind, Kevin McNally, Meegan Warner and Seth Numrich also star. (Deadline.com)

UNDATEABLE (NBC/Warner Bros.; W: Adam Sztykiel; D: Scott Ellis) - Bianca Kajlich ("Rules of Engagement") and Aly Michalka ("Hellcats") have both been cast in the comedy pilot, about new roommates - man-child Danny Beeman (Chris D'Elia) and chronic over-thinker Justin Zip (Brent Morin) - who bond over their foibles with the opposite sex. The former will play Danny's sister Leslie ("a straight shooting, no bullshit divorceé with a kid") while the latter is set as Maddy ("the attractive waitress who is always attracted to assholes"), who works at Justin's bar. Kajlich's involvement is in second position to her CBS comedy. Rick Glassman and Ron Funches also star. (Deadline.com)

AND IN OTHER NEWS... - FOX has given monikers to its Andy Samberg-led comedy "Brooklyn 99" and its J.J. Abrams-produced drama "Human" (USAToday.com); Jimmy Fallon is reportedly on track to succeed Jay Leno as host of "The Tonight Show," which will relocate to New York City for the first time since 1972 (NYTimes.com); a New York Supreme Court judge has enjoined the broadcast of Lifetime's original movie "Romeo Killer: The Chris Porco Story" this Saturday (THR.com); Manu Bennett's Slade Wilson has joined Emily Bett Rickards and Colton Haynes as the latest series regular on "Arrow" (THR.com); and Darri Ingolfsson will recur on "Dexter" as "an antique dealer of old medieval equipment who starts dating Dexter's (Michael C. Hall) neighbor" (EW.com).
