New York, NY - (March 7, 2013) - MTV's 24-hour college network, mtvU, announced today that twin sister indie pop sensations Tegan And Sara will co-host the "2013 mtvU Woodie Awards" with Cleveland rapper Machine Gun Kelly. Additionally, 2013 mtvU "Breaking Woodie" nominee twenty one pilots will join the "2013 mtvU Woodie Awards" line-up alongside previously announced Macklemore & Ryan Lewis in Austin, Texas on March 14 during the SXSW Music Festival. HAIM and Timeflies will take the stage during the "mtvU Woodie Awards Festival" leading into the "Woodie Awards" that evening, along with previously announced Festival artists include "Breaking Woodie" nominee Alt-J, Jake Bugg, and Jams Stage performers Trinidad Jame$, Travi$ Scott, and Joey Bada$$. MTV and mtvU will air a half-hour "2013 Woodie Awards Special" on Sunday, March 17 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. mtvU will announce additional performers at a later date.
"2013 mtvU Woodie Awards" Hosts
In addition to performing at the "2012 mtvU Woodie Awards Festival," Machine Gun Kelly also took home a chunk of wood for the "Breaking Woodie" category that year. This year, he's back as a co-host of the Award show, and as a nominee for the "Woodie of the Year." He will join co-hosts and twin sisters from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Tegan and Sara, who are nominated for the "Tag Team Woodie" for their collaboration with Morgan Page for "Body Work." The duo, who recently released their 7th studio album, Heartthrob, has a unique ability to bridge pop and indie worlds, allowing their music to cross all traditional boundaries of genre. Internationally-celebrated songwriters, performers and artists, they've played countless festivals around the world including Coachella, Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, and Austin City Limits.

HAIM and Timeflies are the latest performers added to the "2013 mtvU Woodie Awards Festival." Previously announced Festival performers include Alt-J, Jake Bugg, and MTV Jams Stage artists including Trinidad Jame$, Joey Bada$$, and Travi$ Scott.
HAIM is from the San Fernando Valley and consists of three sisters (Este, Danielle, and Alana) who grew up playing classic rock songs with their parents in a family band, called Rockinhaim. Over the past few years, the band has toured with Florence and the Machine, Mumford and Sons Ke$ha, Julian Casablancas and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros among many others. Last summer, HAIM released a three song EP titled "Forever," which is also the title track on the record. HAIM's debut album is set for release in summer of 2013. Timeflies duo Rob "Rez" Resnick and Cal Shapiro started the band in 2010 and in September 2011 they released their first debut album, "The Scotch Tape." They're known for their remixes, performing live covers, freestyling and original beats. Their second album will be released in Spring/Summer 2013.
The Woodies Festival and Award Show
To harness the power of live music, MTV and mtvU are touching down in Austin, Texas during the SXSW Music Festival on Thursday, March 14, 2013. The day will begin at 1:30 p.m. CT with a host of live performances by up-and-coming artists during the open-air "Woodie Awards Festival," which will feature two stages: the "Festival" stage, and the "MTV Jams" stage. Open to all SXSW badge holders and music fans over the age of 18, the performances will lead up to the "2013 mtvU Woodie Awards," which will take-over the Festival beginning just past 7:00 p.m. CT on March 14, 2013. Music fans without SXSW badges will need a "Woodies" ticket for entry. Tickets are free and available in the Austin Convention Center on Wednesday, March 13 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the top of the Rotunda stairs.
On Sunday, March 17, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, mtvU will bring the best moments from the show to MTV and mtvU in the half-hour "2013 mtvU Woodie Awards Special." The hosted special will showcase some of the best "Woodie Awards" performances and celebrate the artists who are walking away with Awards this year. Additionally, the biggest celebrities, comedians and artists will join the special to give a nod to their favorite artists.
