LOGO DECLARES "WITCH, PLEASE!" WITH PREMIERE OF CAMPY SITCOM CLASSIC "BEWITCHED"
Series Launches with All-Day "Bewitched" Marathon, Sunday, October 14th on Logo
NEW YORK, NY - September 24, 2012 - Before gay was "ok" on TV, an outrageously campy show about a witch, her mortal husband and her trouble-making mother embraced a gay sensibility, if not necessarily gay sexuality. "Bewitched" has been hailed as one of the greatest TV shows of all time, and now it makes its debut on Logo. Joining the likes of the hit acquisitions "Absolutely Fabulous" and "Will and Grace" (which will join the network lineup in 2013), Logo continues to redefine what makes a comedy "classic" for its viewers. From Samantha & Darrin's "mixed marriage" to her drag queen-like mother Endora, to Paul Lynde's swishy turn as Uncle Arthur, watching "Bewitched" today, with its thinly-veiled gay subtext, will delight contemporary audiences as much or more than when it first premiered almost 50 years ago. "Bewitched" premieres with an all-day marathon starting at 10:30 AM ET/PT, Sunday, October 14th, before moving to its regular night and time, Wednesdays from 7-10 PM ET/PT, on Logo.
"'Bewitched' broke new ground with its wittily subversive portrayal of a man who believes he is in charge but is actually dominated by the powerful women in his life as they manipulate most everything that happens," said Marc Leonard, Senior Vice President of Multiplatform Programming, Logo. "The series cast a spell over audiences for years with its comic take on classic themes including; life in American suburbia, the challenges of marriage, feuding with your in-laws, keeping up appearances, growing up different from those around you and celebrating love that crosses boundaries."
"Bewitched" follows the hijinks of advertising executive Darrin Stephens (Dick York) and his wife Samantha Stephens (Elizabeth Montgomery) as they navigate her secret life as a witch living in suburban America. Along for the ride is Samantha's ever-present witch mother Endora (Agnes Moorehead) who's continually unforgiving of Darrin's bumbling and mortal ways. Added to the mix are nosey neighbor Gladys Kravitz (Sandra Gould) who spends the majority of her time trying to "out" Samantha as a witch to her husband Abner Kravitz (George Tobias), but can never seem to find the necessary proof. Also, keeping Darrin and Samantha on their toes as new parents is their daughter Tabitha (Diane Murphy). Much to Endora's delight and Darrin's dismay, Tabitha begins to display and hone her baby witch skills that could threaten to expose the family secret.
