DISCOVERY CHANNEL'S HOT NEW SERIES "YUKON MEN" IS CHILLING TV
There's a town deep in the remote interior of Alaska, at the junction of two powerful rivers, with no roads in or out, where wolves howling through the frigid night air reminds the 200 people living there how isolated they really are. Discovery Channel's thrilling new series YUKON MEN, premiering Friday August 24 at 10PM ET/PT unveils Tanana, Alaska as its people face one of the most brutal winters on record.
Life here is harsh. People struggle to find food and heat; battle life-threatening predators just to survive. Boys grow into men quickly here because they must help the family survive. Father-son bonding and tensions take on a new meaning in this environment. The stakes are high in Tanana, and to defy the odds, to survive and to battle the harsh Alaskan wilderness, these YUKON MEN must overcome obstacles, stick together and prevail.
Meet the YUKON MEN and their families:
STAN: He was born and raised in Boston, but fled his troubles and tough neighborhood for the wild life of Alaska. Stan had to learn how to survive on his own. He has his unorthodox ways, but after 40 years he knows what it takes to live off the land and keep his family safe. That includes his 14-dog sled team - they are part of the family.
JOEY: Stan's 21-year-old son was born and raised in Tanana. He has learned from Stan, but also from the town's native elders. Joey's skills are beyond his years and his independent streak leads to some conflict. He's getting his own house and becoming his own man.
CHARLIE: His talents as a subsistence provider are almost legendary. Charlie is one of the best hunters and trappers in the region; he also has unmatched mechanical skills and keeps the town's water supply running. In short, there's almost nothing Charlie can't do... he's the heart of Tanana, always there to help anyone in any situation, but providing for his family always comes first.
ROBERT: Charlie's son still has a lot to learn about surviving in Tanana. Bob is a typical kid - he likes to hang with friends and sleep late. That doesn't always work in Tanana, especially when your father is a demanding local legend like Charlie.
JAMES: He's a quiet, but intense man with four growing boys to feed. James hustles a living by logging - girding trees to be taken in winter or the incredibly dangerous driftwood logging in the raging Yukon River.
COURTNEY: She is Tanana's frontier woman. Courtney runs sled dogs, swings a mean hammer and serves as the town's furrier. But even this tough woman looks for help when a desperate, lone wolf threatens her home and daughter.
YUKON MEN is the real story of survival. Temperatures reaching 60 below zero affect relationships, minds and one's very will to survive. The YUKON MEN and their families are brave and resourceful as they struggle to exist in one of America's last true frontiers.
