Development Update: Monday, November 7
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

THE CLOSER (TNT) - Co-star Corey Reynolds has passed on joining the show's proposed Mary McDonnell-led spin-off, "Major Crimes." The actor instead has inked a talent holding deal with NBC. The pact calls for the Peacock to develop a new series project around Reynolds or cast him in one of their existing properties. (Deadline.com)

DANNY HOLLYWOOD (The CW, New!) - Bert V. Royal ("Easy A") is set to import the Israeli dramedy about "a young documentary filmmaker travels back in time in order to prevent the death of her '90s musical idol Danny Hollywood, and finds that the story is even more complicated than she thought." Mark Harmon, Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum and Martha Haight are also on board to executive produce the hour for CBS Television Studios, The Tannenbaum Company, Wings Productions and Armoza Formats. Tmira Yardeni and Ori Gross were behind the original half-hour incarnation, which took place in 1968. (Deadline.com)

HANNIBAL (NBC, New!) - Bryan Fuller's small screen take on Thomas Harris's signature character Hannibal Lecter has found a potential home at the Peacock. Gaumont International Television is behind the hour, which will "explore the early relationship the renowned psychiatrist and his patient, a young FBI criminal profiler named Will Graham, who is haunted by his ability to empathize with serial killers." Fuller is penning the hour and will executive produce alongside Martha De Laurentiis and Gaumont's Katie O'Connell. It's understood Fuller's script would be ordered directly to 13-episode series rather than follow the traditional pilot process with Gaumont funding the project via a mix of a U.S network license fee and international sales. Fuller is also behind "The Munsters" revival at the network, which likewise may go directly to series. A script for the Universal Media Studios-based project was delivered to the network last week. (Deadline.com)

THE RED TENT (Lifetime) - Anne Meredith ("Bastard Out of Carolina") has been tapped to pen the potential four-hour mini-series, "based on Anita Diamant's 1997 novel set in biblical times when women would gather in tents to support one another on issues ranging from motherhood to local events." Paula Weinstein and Jeffrey Levine are executive producing the project, which follows Dinah, "a woman who marries a prince and has a falling out with her murderous brother." (Variety.com)

UNDER THE DOME (Showtime) - Brian K. Vaughan ("Lost") has been tapped to pen the small screen take on Stephen King's 2009 novel, about "locals at a Maine vacation spot who battle one another when a force field suddenly surrounds their town and cuts them off from the rest of the world." DreamWorks Television is behind the hour with King, Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank serving as executive producers alongside Vaughn. (Deadline.com)

UNTITLED JEFF GREENSTEIN PROJECT (ABC, New!) - Jeff Greenstein ("Desperate Housewives") has booked a new single-camera comedy at the Alphabet which "chronicles the early days of celebrity chefs Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger's unique business partnership and friendship." Michael Eisner, Noel Bright and Steve Cohen are also on board to executive produce the project, which will be set in the 1980s. Milliken and Feniger themselves then will also serve as producers. (Deadline.com)

A WOMAN OF STEEL (ABC, New!) - Jorge Zamacona ("Outlaw") likewise is looking to import the Televisa format "Soy Tu Dueña," about "a Texas heiress who loses her fortune and is forced to move back to the ranch she grew up on." He'll write and executive produce the hour alongside Unbelievable Entertainment's Eva Longoria and Intrigue's Tariq Jalil. ABC Studios, Lionsgate Television and Televisa will then co-produce. (Deadline.com)

AND IN OTHER NEWS... - HBO has passed on its Tea Leoni/Hope Davis-led comedy pilot "Spring/Fall" (Deadline.com); Sharpay Evans will guest on "Raising Hope" as Jimmy's (Lucas Neff) fake girlfriend designed to make Sabrina (Shannon Woodward) jealous while Fred Willard will turn up as Jimmy's former high school teacher (EW.com, TVLine.com); Tanya Clarke will join John Schneider as the parents of Chord Overstreet's Sam on "Glee" (EW.com); Larry Miller has been tapped as the future father-in-law of Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) on "NCIS" (EW.com); Gail O'Grady is bound for "Hawaii Five-0" as "a woman who's husband is in a coma who discovers he supposedly dead son may be alive after all" (EW.com); Wilmer Valderrama will guest on "Suburgatory" as the town's popular new age guru (TVGuide.com); Treat Williams will turn up on "Law & Order: SVU" as "a former all-star quarterback caught up in a sting operation with an underage prostitute" (TVGuide.com); Meredith Hagner will guest on "CSI: Miami" as a kiddie beauty pageant contestant's big sister who falls under suspicion when their mother is murdered (TVLine.com); Kat Foster will recur on "Franklin & Bash" as a smart and beautiful police officer who begins dating Mark-Paul Gosselaar's Peter (THR.com); plus Janet McTeer has joined the cast of "Damages" as a former colleague of Glenn Close's Patty Hewes who goes to work for Rose Byrne's Ellen Parsons (THR.com).
