"beCAUSE Docs" Launches with U.S. Premiere of "The World's Worst Place to be Gay" on October 22nd
New Documentaries Will Premiere Every Saturday at 8 PM/ 7c
NEW YORK, October 6, 2011 - Logo, a channel of MTV Networks, a unit of Viacom (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), continues the efforts of its first pro-social campaign "beCAUSE" by addressing critical social issues in a new series of documentaries. The series begins with the U.S. premiere of "The World's Worst Place to be Gay" on Saturday, October 22nd at 8 PM / 7c.
The documentaries that are set to premiere include: "The World's Worst Place to Be Gay," "Illegal Love," The Legacy of Brendan Burke" and "Outrage."
"The World's Worst Place to be Gay" follows openly gay entertainer DJ Scott Mills and his journey to Uganda, a country where homosexuality is considered an illegal offense. With his own life at stake, Mills reveals the cruel and even deadly consequences that gay right activists must endure in Uganda.
"Illegal Love," by French filmmaker Julie Gail, also makes U.S premiere on Logo. Gail explores how California's Proposition 8 marked the only time in U.S history in which a civil right was granted and subsequently revoked. Gail explores the underlying motivations from both sides of the same-sex marriage debate. This documentary exposes the injustice a minority group must face when a majority chooses to rescind their rights. "Illegal Love" premieres Saturday, October 29th at 8 PM / 7c.
"The Legacy of Brendan Burke" tells the story of a young athlete's journey into advocacy. As the son of sports star Brian Burke, Brendan aspired to follow in his father's footsteps as a renowned hockey player. Brendan's journey led him to make his as a hockey manager and also one of the few openly gay figures in professional sports. Though a tragic accident ended his life early, Burke's activism against homophobia in sports leaves behind a legacy that will not soon be forgotten. "The Legacy of Brendan Burke" premieres Saturday, November 5th at 8 PM / 7c.
The controversial and critically-acclaimed documentary "Outrage" premieres as the season finale of "beCause Docs." Filmmaker Kirby Dick exposes closeted politicians who have built their careers off of anti-gay legislation. With evidence collected from classified documents, court testimonies, audio tapes and first person interviews, Kirby Dick explores the politics of hypocrisy. "Outrage" premieres Saturday, November 12th at 8 PM / 7c.
