LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
AWKWARD. (MTV) - Zachary Abel ("Make It or Break It") has landed a two-episode arc on the recently launched comedy. He'll play "the older bro of Beau Mirchoff's Matty, who has thus far remained a bit of a mystery, even as he grows closer to the once-invisible Jenna (played by Ashley Rickards)," beginning with the show's September 6 episode.
DEAD LAYWERS (Syfy) - Sony Pictures Television is redeveloping Christopher Murphey's failed 2003 pilot, about when "hotshot defense attorney Jimmy Quinn is run over by a bus, he finds himself in his own version of hell: a law firm on earth composed of other dead lawyers, all trying to right miscarriages of justice in order to redeem themselves." "Justified's" Graham Yost and Fred Golan are spearheading the new incarnation, which will make the network rounds this week with John Stamos attached to star. Sean Patrick Flanery and F. Murray Abraham toplined the original version, which was helmed by Paris Barclay.
GAME OF THRONES (HBO) - Gemma Whelan ("Gulliver's Travels") is the latest addition to the show's sprawling cast. She'll play Yara Greyjoy, "the older sister of the Stark family's impulsive young ward, Theon (Alfie Allen)." Said character is known as Asha in the books however producers opted for the revised moniker in order to avoid confusion with the wildling Osha.
HOUSE (FOX) - Charlyne Yi ("Knocked Up") has joined the cast of the show's eighth season. She, along with fellow newcomer Odette Annable, will play a new member of the diagnostics team at Princeton-Plainsboro. No other details were given.
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (CBS) - Writer/producer Kourtney Kang has inked a two-year overall deal with producer 20th Century Fox Television. The pact, financial details of which weren't released, covers her duties on the veteran comedy - where she'll be upped to executive producer - as well as call for her to develop new series projects for the studio.
PARENTHOOD (NBC) - Brittany Belt ("The Ex List") is set to recur on the show's upcoming third season. She'll play Emma, "one of Haddie's best friends since 7th grade. Emma feels Haddie's relationship with Alex (Michael B. Jordan) is preventing her from letting loose and having a memorable senior year." Meanwhile, John Corbett is on track to reprise his role of Sarah's (Lauren Graham) recovering alcoholic ex Seth in multiple episodes.
THE PLAYBOY CLUB (NBC) - Troy Garity ("Barbershop") has been cast in the Peacock's period drama. He'll recur as John Bianchi, "the 'connected' son of Bruno Bianchi, a Chicago crime kingpin who meets an unexpected and grisly fate in the series premiere." Garity's character will make his first appearance in the show's second episode, who attempts to "leverage Nick's (Eddie Cibrian) sense of 'family' loyalty to ascertain the whereabouts of 'their' MIA father."
POE (ABC) - Executive producer Dan Lin has set up shop at Warner Bros. Television, inking an overall deal with the studio. The pact calls for his Lin Pictures to develop new series projects with Jennifer Gwartz spearheading said development. Lin Pictures was behind the aforementioned "Poe" this past development cycle, which didn't move forward to series, as well as Rina Mimoun's "Teach" at ABC and Gary Scott Thompson's "Mavericks" at FOX.
