Development Update: Friday, July 22
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

4REAL (The CW, Exclusive!) - National Geographic Channel has acquired the broadcast rights to the short-lived series, which followed host Sol Guy and various celebrities - from Cameron Diaz to Eva Mendes - as they explored exotic locales around the world. Said run will air Friday nights at 9:00/8:00c beginning September 9 with two episodes each night.

BOB'S BURGERS (FOX) - The network has commissioned nine additional scripts for the show's second season, the producers announced at its panel earlier today at Comic-Con International. Said order will potentially keep the series in production beyond its planned 13-episode second season.

CHARLIE'S ANGELS (ABC) - John Terry ("Lost") has booked a potentially recurring role on the series. He'll play Victor Sampson, the dad of cat burglar-turned-Angel Abby (played by Rachael Taylor), "a former Wall Street titan now behind bars for fraud, thus estranged from his daughter." He'll make his first appearance in the show's second episode.

EDEN (USA) - The cable channel has passed on the drama, making it USA's first scripted pilot not to make the cut to series since 2008's "Operating Instructions." Nick D'Agosto and Enver Gjokaj starred in the project, about "a young hotel worker (D'Agosto) who, with the help of his escaped con artist cousin Eddie (Gjokaj), gets a job as the concierge at an elite NYC hotel. Together they manage to provide the hotel guests with whatever they desire, at whatever the cost." Jace Alexander direct from a script by co-creators Ken Hanes and Mary Hanes.

A GIFTED MAN (CBS) - Rhys Coiro ("Entourage") is set to recur on the freshman drama. He'll play Zeke Barnes, "a family doctor by day and a rock musician by night [who's] something of a medical MacGyver." Patrick Wilson toplines the drama, which launches Friday, September 23 on the network.

SECRET FORTUNE (CBS) - Donny Osmond ("The Great American Dream Vote") has been tapped to host the game show pilot, in which contestants compete by correctly answering questions to eliminate 23 of 24 envelopes - the last of which may contain a measly or life-altering sum. Nigel Lythgoe of Big Red 2 Entertainment and Phil Morrow of Wild Rover Productions are the executive producers.

SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE (Starz) - Ellen Hollman ("Skateland") is the latest addition to the new season of the pay channel series. She'll play Saxa, "a beautiful, vicious, intelligent and fiercely passionate woman that could face any man and have a good chance of coming out the victor." "Spartacus" returns this January.

THE SWELL LIFE (OWN, Exclusive!) - The long-in-the-works reality series - "a look inside the lives of former competitive surfer Izzy Paskowitz, his wife Danielle, their three children -- one of whom is autistic -- and their surf school business" - will finally see the light of day on Saturday, August 6 with a five-hour marathon from 12-5 p.m. ET/PT. Said effort, from producer Snackaholic, was originally announced as part of OWN's launch lineup in April of 2009. No reason for the delay was given.
