MTV Takes Viewers on a Psychological Thrill-Ride in Orignal Movie "The Truth Below" Premiering June 16th at 10pm ET/PT

NEW YORK, NY (May 19, 2011) - MTV treats viewers to extreme suspense in its upcoming original TV movie "The Truth Below," premiering Thursday, June 16th at 10pm ET/PT. The two-hour psychological thriller, starring Gilian Zinser (90210), Reid Ewing (Modern Family), Nick Thurston (Surviving Ophelia), and Ricky Mabe (Zack and Miri Make a Porno) is the sixth original movie from MTV since the network launched its new movie initiative in 2009.

"We were immediately drawn to the script for 'The Truth Below' which explores the complex and challenging themes of friendship, sex, death and betrayal through the perspective of characters the same age as the MTV audience," said Chris Linn EVP Programming & Head of Production. " 'The Truth Below' is an opportunity to expand our original movie brand beyond horror and comedy and work with an incredibly talented group of young actors. The twists and turns in the plot combined with exceptionally strong performances make this movie a true thriller."

In "The Truth Below," a Spring Break snowboarding vacation becomes a terrifying journey for college friends, Jenna (Zinser), Ethan (Ewing), Dante (Thurston) and Liam (Mabe). Their road trip home from the mountain soon turns deadly when a freak accident forces them off the road and buries their car under an avalanche. Trapped with no choice but to wait for rescue and face an unknown fate, the group plays a game in which they reveal secrets they would never otherwise share. They soon discover they not only have to survive the accident, but also each other. The moments dwindle and they are forced to ask themselves "how well do you really know your friends" as their game builds to a shocking conclusion.

"The Truth Below" is directed by Scott Glosserman whose film "Behind the Mask: the Rise of Leslie Vernon" was a festival hit in 2006 and is written by Wendy Diane Miller. It is executive produced by Maggie Malina, Scott Glosserman, and Chris Linn. Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev of Nomadic Pictures serve as producers.
