Development Update: Thursday, April 14
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

AMERICAN GODS (HBO, New!) - Playtone's Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman are developing Neil Gaiman's fantasy novel for the small screen. Robert Richardson ("Inglourious Basterds") and Gaiman are co-writing the script, which follows "an ex-con who becomes the traveling partner of a conman who turns out to be one of the older gods - traditional gods and mythological creatures who got their power because people throughout history believed in them - trying to recruit troops to battle the upstart deities - who reflect America's preoccupation with technological advancements and obsessions with media, celebrity, technology and drugs." No other auspices were given.

HAWAII FIVE-0 (CBS) - TNT's purchase of the show's off-network run, announced earlier today, is reportedly valued just north of $2 million per episode, on par with recent sales of "NCIS: Los Angeles" to USA and "The Mentalist" to TNT. Said run kicks off in the summer of 2014.

HERD MENTALITY (CBS) - Cynthia McWilliams ("The Chicago Code") has joined the cast of the comedy pilot, about Nick Herd (Damon Wayans), "an egotistical sports-radio host with a quick wit and cocky likability." She'll play his wife Megan ("pretty and put together") in the CBS Television Studios-based half-hour, the mother of two kids from a previous marriage and stepmom to Nick's son from his previous marriage. Danny Comden and Eliza Dushku also star while Andy Cadiff is directing from a script by Bill Martin and Mike Schiff.

THE LAST DAYS OF MAN (ABC) - Shirley Rumierk has joined the cast of the Tim Allen-led comedy pilot, about a married father of three who tries to maintain his manliness in a world increasingly dominated by women. She'll presumably play Nikki, the granddaughter of Tim's retiring boss (Hector Elizondo) whom he's tapped to replace him at his demolition company. Kaitlyn Dever and Nancy Travis also star in the 20th Century Fox Television-based half-hour, which John Pasquin is directing from a script by Jack Burditt.

VINCE UNCENSORED (CBS) - Rachel G. Fox and Marcella Lentz-Pope have both been cast in the Michael Chiklis-led comedy pilot, about Vince Donohue, a family man who experiences a medical problem and starts to speak the truth and live in the moment, much to the chagrin to his family. They'll play the youngest and oldest of Vince's three daughters, Rosie and Bryce, respectively. Middle child Marnie has yet to be cast. Elizabeth Perkins, Georgia Engel and Maz Jobrani also star in the Warner Bros. Television-based half-hour, from director Kelsey Grammer and writer Phoef Sutton.
