Development Update: Thursday, April 7
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

ALPHA MOM (NBC) - James Pumphrey (Spike TV's "Players") has joined the cast of the comedy pilot, "an irreverent look at parenthood through the POV of Reagan (Christina Applegate), an acerbic working mother, along with her stay-at-home husband and opinionated parents." He'll play Brian, Reagan's assistant, who has grown a thick handlebar mustache to distract himself from his dating foibles. Emily Spivey is behind the Universal Media Studios-based half-hour, which also stars Maya Rudolph and Will Arnett. James Griffiths is directing.

GREY'S ANATOMY (ABC) - Executive producer Mark Gordon has reupped his overall deal with producer ABC Studios for another four years. The pact keeps The Mark Gordon Company, which has been with ABC for 10 years, based on at the studio for the foreseeable future. In addition to "Grey's," the company is also behind "Private Practice," "Criminal Minds," "Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior" and "Army Wives." Additionally, he'll have a first-look deal with Walt Disney Studios on the feature side.

HOUSE (FOX) - Co-star Robert Sean Leonard will reportedly depart the series after its current season wraps in May. "This is my last season of House," the actor told TVLine.com. "I'm shooting my last episode now. Contractually this is it. There's also no deal for House next year because Comcast bought NBC Universal and no one has a deal. If I do House next year it'll be under a new umbrella. But legally and contractually, I'm free after this [season]. So my wife [Gabriella Salick] and I were wondering how the summer looked and what we wanted to do. And I've never had enough time to do a play [while doing House] because our hiatuses are only about a month of maybe six weeks long." FOX has yet to renew the series for an eighth season.

THE LAST DAYS OF MAN (ABC) - Kaitlyn Dever ("Justified") has landed a role on the Tim Allen-led comedy pilot, about a married father of three who tries to maintain his manliness in a world increasingly dominated by women. She'll play Eve, Tim's smart, energetic youngest daughter. Hector Elizondo and Nancy Travis also star in the 20th Century Fox Television-based half-hour, which John Pasquin is directing from a script by Jack Burditt.

LOVELIVES (NBC) - Collette Wolfe ("Cougar Town") has joined the cast of the comedy pilot, about a couple and their challenges of love and fidelity. She'll take over for Amanda Loncar as Holly, one half of the aforementioned couple. No reason for the change was given. Ryan Hansen, Sean Maguire, Smith Cho and Stella Maeve also star while Rob Greenberg is directing from a script by Chris Sheridan for 20th Century Fox Television.

MISSING (ABC) - Sean Bean ("Game of Thrones") has scored a role on the upcoming drama, about Becca Winstone (Ashley Judd), a former CIA agent who takes it upon herself to travel to Europe and track down her son who's gone missing during a summer internship. He'll play her late husband Paul ("buff, polished, but with a dangerous sense of humor; the man all the ladies try to catch under the mistletoe at the office Christmas party"), who appears in the series via flashback. Production on the series is set to begin shortly in Prague, with Steve Shill directing the pilot from a script by Greg Poirier.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (CBS) - FX has acquired the off-network rights to the veteran comedy. The six-year pact, which begins this fall, calls for the cable channel to share said rights with its current off-network home, Lifetime. The latter purchased an exclusive two-year window back in 2008 for $725,000 per episode (with another two years non-exclusive). Financial details about FX's purchase weren't given. The 20th Century Fox Television-based "Mother" was recently renewed by CBS for two more seasons, its seventh and eighth.

THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF D.C. (Bravo) - The cable channel has reportedly pulled the plug on the much-ballyhooed series after 11 episodes. The news marks the first "Real Housewives" incarnation to be shuttered. Half Yard Productions was behind the project, with Abby Greensfelder and Sean Gallagher serving as executive producers. Catherine Ommanney, Lynda Erkiletian, Mary Schmidt Amons, Michaele Salahi and Stacie Scott Turner co-starred.
