Los Angeles, CA, April 6, 2011 - The Style Network announces the launch of a national campaign to help tackle obesity and teach families how to maintain a healthy weight by hosting its first-ever "Fight with Style: Healthy Moms, Healthy Kids" Town Hall at the West County YMCA in St. Louis, MO, on Saturday, April 16. Hosted by "The Biggest Loser's" Alison Sweeney, the event will feature Style's Ruby Gettinger and students Tanisha Mitchell, Carsyn Nash and Rachel Qualley from the hit series "Too Fat for Fifteen: Fighting Back" as panel participants who will discuss their struggles with food addiction. A variety of other useful and practical information on fighting obesity will also be part of the event. Style's cameras will capture the town hall for a half-hour special, "Too Fat for 15: The Obesity Crisis," airing in June.
"Through our 'Fight with Style' initiative, Style is dedicated to providing viewers with the resources and information they need to live healthy and fulfilling lives," said Salaam Coleman Smith, President, The Style Network. "Obesity is one of the biggest health and appearance based issues facing women today. With childhood obesity now growing as an epidemic, we're committed to helping moms raise healthy kids and helping women look and feel their very best. This event marks the beginning of a national campaign that will take on this critical issue."
The "Fight with Style" Town Hall will have an expo with booths from various local and national organizations, as well as panel presentations with guests from Style, professional athletes and renowned specialists in the health field. Ruby will sit down with Alison Sweeney to discuss her weight struggles, and then take part in a lively panel with Y-USA's Senior Director of Chronic Disease Prevention Dr. Matt Longjohn and Dr. Denise Wilfley, director of the weight management and eating disorders program at Washington University. Additionally, the brave teenagers who allow cameras to follow their weight-loss experience at Wellspring Academy will take the stage along with their physical trainer John Taylor.
