HUGH DANCY & PARKER POSEY DIVE INTO SHOWTIME'S "THE BIG C"
British Star & Indie Queen Join the Legendary Alan Alda as Guest Stars in 2nd Season of Acclaimed Comedy Series,
Premiering Monday, June 27th
LOS ANGELES, CA - (March 31, 2011) - Hot British film star Hugh Dancy and indie film queen Parker Posey have signed on as guest stars for the second season of the hit SHOWTIME comedy series THE BIG C, premiering June 27th. Dancy will star in at least 6 episodes as Lee, a charming cancer patient who, after a rocky start, befriends Cathy (Laura Linney) during their time in an experimental drug trial. Meanwhile, Posey signs on for 4 episodes playing Poppy, an older woman who develops an unlikely relationship with Cathy's teenaged son, Adam (Gabriel Basso). Recently announced guest star Alan Alda will play Dr. Atticus Sherman, Cathy's oncologist.
THE BIG C is currently shooting in Stamford, Connecticut and will premiere on SHOWTIME on Monday, June 27th at 10:30 PM, immediately following the premiere of WEEDS. THE BIG C is created and written by Darlene Hunt, who serves as executive producer, along with showrunner Jenny Bicks, Laura Linney, Neil H. Moritz and Vivian Cannon. It is produced by Sony Pictures Television.
Having appeared in many UK films and TV shows, Dancy became well-known to American audiences for his work in the blockbuster military action drama Black Hawk Down, Dancy has also made his mark in notable romantic comedies, including Confessions of a Shopaholic and The Jane Austen Book Club. He is Emmy-nominated for his turn as Earl of Essex in the mini-series Elizabeth I. Dancy will next be seen starring in the acclaimed feature Martha Marcy May Marlene in the fall, and will also be seen in Our Idiot Brother in August. He will voice the role of Marshall Mallow in the upcoming animated feature Dorothy of Oz.
Posey had breakout roles in several successful indie films of the '90s, including Dazed and Confused, Party Girl and suBurbia. But she made an indelible mark on audiences with her hilarious work in several of mockumentarian Christopher Guest's films, including Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind and For Your Consideration. She earned a Golden Globe nomination for her work in the 2002 mini-series Hell on Heels: The Battle of Mary Kay. Additional film credits include House of Yes, You've Got Mail, Superman Returns and The Anniversary Party. On television, she has made notable guest appearances on Boston Legal and Will & Grace.
THE BIG C stars Laura Linney in her Golden Globe(R)-winning role as Cathy Jamison, a reserved, Minneapolis wife/mother/teacher whose cancer diagnosis forces her to shake up her life and find hope, humor and the light side of a dark situation. This season, Cathy progresses from Denial to Anger on the grief cycle and will become an all-out warrior in the fight against her Stage 4 melanoma.
