LOS ANGELES, February 17, 2011 - Former Nip/Tuck executive producers and current Glee co-creators/executive producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk are returning to FX with a new hour-long drama series pilot, American Horror Story, announced John Landgraf, President and General Manager, FX Networks.
Landgraf said, "Ryan created Nip/Tuck for FX, a Golden Globe(R) and Emmy(R)-winning drama that was #1 among Adults 18-49 in basic cable for four years. Then he co-created Glee for FBC, a Golden Globe- and Emmy-winning drama that is the #1 scripted hour on broadcast television among Adults 18-49. American Horror Story is a wildly brilliant original series. Ryan and Brad Falchuk, who created it together, are evil geniuses and, in the spirit of the great Louis Armstrong, 'Hello, Dolly, well hello, Dolly, it's so nice to have you back where you belong'"
The pilot for American Horror Story is co-created by Murphy and Falchuk and it will be directed by Murphy with production beginning in April. Should FX order the pilot to series, production would begin in late spring and debut this fall. American Horror Story is produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television. In addition to Murphy and Falchuk, Dante Di Loreto will also serve as Executive Producer of American Horror Story.
"American Horror Story is a project that Brad and I have been discussing for a while," said Murphy. "John Landgraf and I have maintained a wonderful relationship since Nip/Tuck ended its run and he gave me an open invitation to develop a new show for the network. FX is the perfect place for this series and we look forward to a great homecoming."
Murphy added, "And as for Glee, fans can rest assured that we haven't taken our eyes off that ball for a second. We've broken the stories for the season's remaining episodes and we've got big things planned for our little glee club as it strives to make it past Regionals to the all-important Nationals competition in New York City."
Brad Falchuk commented, "We knew this project was perfect for FX. That network put itself on the map for its big, bold, some might say slightly twisted shows, and the creative freedom we had on Nip/Tuck was incredibly liberating. John immediately got what we were trying to do, which was bring the horror genre to television but with our own subversive sensibilities. And we couldn't be more excited to get started."
This collaboration between Murphy and Falchuk reunites the two with FX, where they worked on the Golden Globe award-winning hit drama Nip/Tuck for seven remarkable seasons. Nip/Tuck was created, written and directed by Murphy, and also written by Falchuk who rose through the ranks to become an Executive Producer.
Murphy and Falchuk (along with Ian Brennan) are Co-Creators and Executive Producers of FOX's hit musical comedy Glee, which has won the Golden Globe Award for Best Comedy Series for two consecutive years, and for which Murphy won the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. Dante Di Loreto is also Executive Producer of Glee.
FX is the flagship general entertainment basic cable network from the Fox Networks Group. Launched in June of 1994, FX is carried in more than 98 million homes.
