SPORTS HEROES VISIT DISNEY XD
Twin brothers and pro basketball players Robin Lopez (Phoenix Suns) and Brook Lopez (New Jersey Nets) join the growing list of sports figures populating Disney XD, the multiplatform brand for kids age 6-14 that hyper-targets boys and their quest for discovery, accomplishment, sports themes, adventure and humor.
The 7-foot tall Lopez brothers join twin teen stars Dylan and Cole Sprouse ("The Suite Life on Deck" and "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody") to host a weekend long programming event, "Biggest Fans Weekend," beginning SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 19 (11:00 a.m., ET/PT) on Disney XD. The Sprouse twins, avid basketball fans, have followed the Lopez twins' careers.
Among the other sports figures who have guest starred on Disney XD are legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk ("Zeke and Luther") and NFL Hall of Famer Jerry Rice ("I'm In The Band").
Other sports-themed Disney XD programming includes: "Next X," a reality series for kids developed by Disney XD in association with ESPN ("Winter Next X" debuts Monday, January 31), and "SportsCenter High-5," a daily short form series hosted by ESPN reporter Josh Elliott that celebrates the spirit of accomplishment through a compelling, fast-paced presentation of each week's five most triumphant, awe-inspiring moments in sports entertainment.
In 2010, Disney XD delivered its most-watched year in the channel's history in Total Day and Primetime in Total Viewers and across all key kid targets, including Kids 6-14, Boys 6-14, Kids 6-11 and Boys 6-11, posting double-digit percent increases in key demographics.
In the U.S., Disney XD is seen on a 24-hour, advertiser supported network that reaches over 77 million households via its basic cable and satellite affiliates. Its programming includes animated and live-action series and movies as well as music, gaming, and sports-themes, and is available on the linear channel, online, as well as on iTunes, Xbox 360, mobile phones, SVOD and more.
