By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

DESPERADO (CBS, New!) - Anthony E. Zuiker ("CSI: Crime Scene Investigation") has booked yet another drama at the Eye, this time about "a band of lawmen who enact cowboy-style justice on modern-day criminals in San Antonio." Feature writer Kyle Ward ("Hitman 2") penned the hour and is executive producing alongside Zuiker via his Dare to Pass banner. Matthew Weinberg also serves as a co-executive producer for CBS Television Studios.

KNIFE FIGHT (CBS, New!) - Michael Cuesta ("Blue Bloods") is developing a small screen take on crime novelist Joel Goldman's short story of the same name, about "a female public defender who becomes a prosecutor in order to pursue the truth." He'll co-write the hour alongside Gerald Cuesta as well as direct and executive produce. CBS Television Studios then is behind the drama, which also comes from studio-based producers Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly. The latter Cuesta will serve as a co-executive producer.

LAW & ORDER: SPECIAL VICTIMS UNIT (NBC) - Longtime showrunner Neal Baer has inked a three-year, seven-figure overall deal with CBS Television Studios. The massive pact, which begins in June, spells the end of Baer's 16 year run at the Peacock, where he also served on "ER." There he'll develop new series projects for the studio as well as potentially join one of its current or upcoming series. Said development comes as "SVU" co-stars Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni likewise finish the final years of their current contracts.

NTSF:SD:SUV (Adult Swim, New!) - Paul Scheer ("The League") has snagged a 12-episode order from the cable channel for a new comedy billed as "a parody of the ubiquitous genre of crime procedurals." Said effort was ordered straight to series following a mock promo - directed by Eric Appel and featuring Scheer, Rob Riggle, Brandon Johnson and June Raphael - that ran during fellow spoof "Childrens Hospital." Jonathan Stern will executive produce the newcomer alongside Scheer.

TRUE BLOOD (HBO) - Janina Gavankar ("The Gates"), Alexandra Breckenridge ("Life Unexpected") and Vedette Lim ("As the World Turns") have all landed roles on the show's upcoming fourth season. Additionally, Jessica Tuck - who plays vampire mouthpiece Nan Flannigan - has been upped to series regular. Gavankar will play Luna, "a super-sexy public school teacher and shapeshifter who is first seen attending an informal gathering with others like her," with Breckenridge as Daisy, "a member of a wiccan group founded by Marnie (new series regular Fiona Shaw)," and Lim as Naomi, "a fierce fighter who participates in underground cage matches for money."
