[10/22/10 - 06:59 PM] Development Update: Friday, October 22 By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC) |
|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
AFTERWIVES (ABC, New!) - Jennifer Weiner ("In Her Shoes") and Michael MacLennan ("Queer As Folk") are developing a new nighttime soap at the Alphabet. Said hour, additional details of which weren't specified, comes from ABC Studios. Kim Moses and Ian Sander are also on board as executive producers.
CHICAGO FIRE (CBS, New!) - Feature writer Lewis Colick ("Charlie St. Cloud") has landed a potential series at the Alphabet billed as "an action character drama." He'll presumably write and executive produce the hour for ABC Studios with Kim Moses and Ian Sander, who are based at the studio, likewise executive producing.
THE HAPPINESS PROJECT (NBC, New!) - Kristin Davis ("Sex and the City") is set to topline a potential new comedy at the Peacock based on Gretchen Rubin's best-selling memoir of the same name, which chronicled "the New York-based writer's account of the year she spent test-driving studies and theories about how to be happier." Kristin Newman ("Chuck") is in talks to pen the half-hour with Mosaic's Jimmy Miller and Dave Fleming executive producing for Universal Media Studios. Davis would also serve as a co-executive producer, as would Rubin and Fletcher & Co.'s Christy Fletcher.
HUMAN TARGET (FOX) - The network is understood to have asked for two additional scripts for the show's sophomore run. The show's second season, originally set to roll out on October 1, now premieres Wednesday, November 17 at 8:00/7:00c.
INHUMAN (ABC, New!) - Michael Cooney ("Identity") has booked "a close-ended thriller" as the network. The drama project, to be directed by Mark Pellington ("Cold Case"), is set up at the ABC Studios with Kim Moses and Ian Sander executive producing. No other specifics were given.
PINKERTON (Starz, New!) - "24" co-creator Robert Cochran is developing an 8-10-hour limited series at the pay channel about the exploits of Allan Pinkerton, 19th century creator of the Pinkerton National Detective Agency, the first detective agency in the U.S. The network has commissioned a pilot script and a bible for the project, which actor Gerard Butler is also on board to executive produce alongside Cochran and Angela Mancuso. Said effort would track Pinkerton's much-ballyhooed career, which included foiling an assassination attempt on Abraham Lincoln, taking on Jesse James during a railroad robbery and working as part of the Underground Railroad. Pinkerton is credited with pioneering such crime-solving techniques as surveillance, going undercover, mugshots and profiling.
RULES OF ENGAGEMENT (CBS) - The Eye has reportedly ordered two additional episodes of the veteran comedy, bringing its season total to 24 installments. The network previously upped fellow Monday entry "How I Met Your Mother" to 24 episodes earlier this month.
TALL & GREENBAUM (ABC, New!) - Rob Greenberg ("How I Met Your Mother") is developing a domestic take on an upcoming Israeli series about "two best friends - Tall, who keeps cheating on his wife, and Greenbaum, who is an aspiring film director - who own a small production company for filming weddings, bar mitzvahs and other family celebrations." The Alphabet has given a put pilot commitment to the Sony Pictures Television-based project, which likewise comes from Ami Amir's Matar Productions. Greenberg and Amir are the executive producers.
