"EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION" MAKES A SURPRISE ON ICE AS THEY SKATE INTO THE LIVES OF THE GROMMESH FAMILY FROM MOORHEAD, MINNESOTA

"Grommesh Family" -- On October 3, 2010, Bill and Adair Grommesh and their two remarkable children, Garrett and Peighton, were enjoying an exciting game of sled hockey scrimmage with youngsters from HOPE Inc, a local nonprofit organization which makes sports and activities accessible to disabled children. At the end of the game, a photographer invited the teams and families onto the ice for a group picture. From the distance, the Grommesh family from Moorhead, Minnesota couldn't believe their eyes when Ty and the "EM: HE" design team skated onto the ice and surprised them with the news that they would be the latest recipients of a home makeover.

Although nine-year-old Garrett Grommesh was born with spina bifida, he possesses an indomitable spirit and a clear sense of his own limitless possibilities. Garrett has proven that he can do anything that able-bodied children do. He has spoken at several fundraisers, raised money for charities and nonprofits, and helped dedicate a handicap accessible playground.

Garrett has an 11-year-old sister, Peighton, who has a pancreatic enzyme deficiency known as Axenfeld-Reiger's syndrome. Both Garrett and Peighton overwhelm those around them with joy. They embody exactly what they want the world to understand: that just because kids might have physical challenges, that doesn't mean they can't attack each day with power, heart and hope.

Garrett inspired his parents to take over the management of HOPE Inc. Adair and Bill have transformed HOPE Inc into a year-round program to inspire independence for children with disabilities, making sports like hockey, soccer, volleyball, skiing and ice-skating accessible to everyone. Through HOPE Inc, the Grommesh family has brought accessibility to children with disabilities. Unfortunately, they have not been able to bring that same accessibility to their own home That is until now. The "EM: HE" design team will step in to make the Grommesh home handicapped accessible.

The Grommesh family will be on vacation in The Bahamas while "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" team leader Ty Pennington, designers Paul DiMeo, Paige Hemmis and Eduardo Xol, community volunteers and local builders Tyrone M. Leslie and Daryl L. Braham from Heritage Homes Fargo-Moorhead, help rebuild their home.

The location address is: 803 22nd Avenue, Moorehead, MN 56560

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is produced by Endemol USA, of Endemol Holding, and executive-produced by Brady Connell & George Verschoor. David Goldberg is Chairman, Endemol North America.
