Development Update: Friday, October 1
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

MELISSA & JOEY (ABC Family) - The cable channel is said to be close to ordering 10-12 additional episodes of the series. According to the network, the multi-camera comedy ranks "as cable's No. 1 program in its time period among Adults 18-34 (672,000/1.0 rating), Adults 18-49 (1.2 million/0.9 rating) and Viewers 12-34 (885,000/1.0 rating), and across all 3 core female demos."

MUSINGS OF A MIDDLE CHILD (CBS, New!) - Bill Kunstler ("Accidentally on Purpose") has booked a new comedy at the Eye about "a man suffering from middle-child syndrome who is determined to spare his own middle child of the same fate." The CBS Television Studios-based project is based on a manuscript by Bruce Hopman, whom Kunstler worked during his early days in advertising. No other specifics were given. Separately, Kunstler has inked a blind script deal with Warner Bros. Television - where he'll develop a new project alongside Topher Grace and Sargent Hall Productions banner - while his cast-contingent pilot "Tick-Tock" at CBS has been rolled from last year.

NANNYLAND (ABC, New!) - Alexa Junge ("United States of Tara") is developing a new dramedy at the Alphabet about "three branches of an extended Los Angeles family -- as told through the eyes of their three Latina nannies." Jennifer Lopez, Simon Fields and Ann Blanchard are executive producing the hour, which has a script plus penalty order, alongside Junge for Sony Pictures Television and Lopez's Nuyorican Productions. Said project predates Lopez's "first-look" film agreement with Twentieth Century Fox Films and FOX as part of her "American Idol" duties.

WONDER WOMAN (New!) - David E. Kelley ("Ally McBeal") reportedly is developing a small screen take on the DC Comics icon, an Amazonian princess sent from the mythical island of Themyscira to save a world torn by the hatred of men. Said development comes after various attempts to get a feature incarnation off the ground - most recently from producer Joel Silver and writer/director Joss Whedon - as well as a Deborah Joy LeVine's TV push in the late 1990s. Kelley, who's based at Warner Bros. Television, will write and executive produce.
