HISTORY(TM) Provides an Inside Perspective on September 11, 2001 with Recordings of the Last Phone Calls Made from Inside the Towers
VOICES FROM INSIDE THE TOWERS Premieres Friday, September 10, at 9 p.m. ET on HISTORY(TM)
Los Angeles, CA - August 6, 2010 - At 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2001, American Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Within minutes a deluge of telephone calls flooded into the outside world. VOICES FROM INSIDE THE TOWERS, a two-hour special premiering on Friday, Sept. 10, at 9 p.m. ET on HISTORY, brings an "inside" perspective to what happened through phone calls made by some who later died and some who survived. While there is a significant visual record of what happened outside the Towers that day, this film - for the first time - provides a moving and emotional record of what was going on inside the Towers.
With new access to voice recordings of victims left on message machines, both sides of 9-1-1 emergency assistance conversations, survivor stories, and vivid recollections by families of their loved ones' last words, VOICES FROM INSIDE THE TOWERS integrates their stories into a minute-by-minute timeline of what was happening inside the Towers after the planes struck. For the majority of families and survivors, it is the first time they are telling their stories and sharing their home videos and photo albums.
Among the stories: a young man still anguished that he let his brother's last call go to voicemail; a father who had one last heartfelt farewell with his daughter; a wife who finds comfort knowing her husband has had his chance to say goodbye and another wife who, fearing the worst after hearing a frightening message, was relieved to learn her husband had gotten out of the Tower in time.
With the cooperation of the families, the assistance of the 9/11 Memorial Museum and archive from the Voices of September 11 organization, this two-hour special is an important historical record of what happened inside the Towers on that awful day.
VOICES FROM INSIDE THE TOWERS is produced by Darlow Smithson Production Ltd. for HISTORY. For Darlow Smithson, the Executive Producer is John Smithson and Senior Producer is Natalie von Hurter. Executive Producer for HISTORY is Susan Werbe.
