BREADWINNERS (FOX, New!) - "United States of Tara" creator Diablo Cody has booked a put pilot commitment for a new comedy at the network. Details about the project, which is based at Warner Bros. Television, however are being kept under wraps. Cody, whose "Sydney Dare" was also set up at FOX in 2009, will pen the pilot and executive produce alongside Mason Novick.
HELL ON WHEELS (AMC) - Colm Meaney has scored a role on the drama pilot, a contemporary western that centers on the building of the Transcontinental Railroad. He'll play Thomas "Doc" Durant, "a businessman determined to make his fortune building the transcontinental railroad, a man of vision and a self-serving opportunist who is capable of 'creative financing.'" Anson Mount, Dominique McElligott and Common co-star in the hour, which David Von Ancken is helming off a script by Joe and Tony Gayton.
LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT (USA) - Jeff Goldblum has departed the franchise after his first full-time season. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Saffron Burrows likewise may not return as all of the actors' contracts expired on July 31. Said development comes as USA mulls the future of the series, with rumblings ranging from a brief swan song featuring former co-stars Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe to another complete revamp with a new cast. A decision is expected in the coming weeks.
THE ROCKFORD FILES (NBC) - The Peacock reportedly plans to film a new pilot for the project with Film 44's Peter Berg and Sarah Aubrey at the helm. Dermot Mulroney toplined the incarnation this past development season with Michael Watkins directing from a script by David Shore. Steve Carell likewise executive produced via his Carousel Television banner for Universal Media Studios. Berg and Aubrey then will executive produce the second pilot, which will presumably be recast. The pair are also spearheading NBC's two-hour pilot "Prime Suspect" alongside Alexandra Cunningham.
SHEDDING FOR THE WEDDING (The CW) - Sara Rue ("Eastwick") has been tapped to host the midseason entry, in which "10 overweight couples live together and battle during a three-month period for the wedding of their dreams." Rue herself lost 40 pounds on Jenny Craig and in December became a spokesperson for the company. Dave Broome and Rick Hurvitz are the executive producers for Raquel Productions.
UNTITLED DJ NASH PROJECT (ABC, New!) - DJ Nash ("Accidentally on Purpose") has landed a new comedy at the Alphabet about "a guy who marries the girl of his dreams and at the same time gets the job of his dreams on the other coast, so he ends up living with his single friends all week and spending his weekends with his new wife." Sony Pictures Television is behind the half-hour with the studio-based Peter Tolan also serving as an executive producer.
UNTITLED JOSH BERMAN PROJECT (Lifetime) - Sherry Stringfield ("ER") is set to topline the drama pilot, about "police detective Molly Collins, married mother of two on the verge of divorce, and her partner Brooke Kross, recently engaged, investigate the city's most high-profile crimes while navigating their divergent personal lives." She'll play the former character in the Sony Pictures Television-based project, which comes from creator Josh Berman.
