ALL SIGNS OF DEATH (HBO, New!) - "True Blood" creator Alan Ball has booked a new pilot at the pay channel about "an inveterate twenty-something slacker who stumbles into a career as a crime scene cleaner, only to find himself entangled with a murder mystery, a femme fatale and the loose ends of his own past." The project is based on Charlie Huston's 2009 crime noir novel "The Mystic Arts of Erasing All Signs of Death." He'll direct and executive produce the drama, which was penned by Huston himself. Production begins next month in Los Angeles with Huston serving as a co-executive producer with Your Face Goes Here Entertainment's Christina Jokanovich and Peter Macdissi producing.
PERFECT COUPLES (NBC) - Tad Quill ("Samantha Who?") has inked a two-year, seven-figure overall deal with Universal Media Studios. The pact calls for the writer/producer to develop new series projects for the studio. He'll also join the company's "Perfect Couples" on a part-time basis.
THE VAMPIRE DIARIES (The CW) - Taylor Kinney ("Trauma") has landed a role on the show's upcoming sophomore season. He'll play Mason Lockwood, "younger brother of late Mayor Lockwood." He's further detailed as Tyler's (Michael Trevino) "cool uncle, Mason is sexy and athletic (duh) and possesses an easygoing charm; though he has more control than his nephew, he can flip in an instant if crossed." He's scheduled to first appear in the show's September 9 season premiere.
