NIXON JOINS LINNEY IN "THE BIG C"

Cynthia Nixon, "Sex and the City" Star, to Appear in Four Episodes of SHOWTIME's New Dark Comedy Series

LOS ANGELES (June 23, 2010) -- Fresh off her turn in the summer blockbuster film "Sex and the City 2," Emmy(R) and Tony(R) Award winner Cynthia Nixon has just signed on as a guest star in four episodes of the new SHOWTIME dark comedy series THE BIG C, starring Laura Linney. Nixon will play "Rebecca," Linney's flaky, long-lost college roommate who re-enters her life and shakes things up in a wild way. The 13-episode series is currently shooting in Stamford, Connecticut for an August 16th at 10:30p PT/ET premiere, immediately following WEEDS.

Nixon has garnered critical acclaim for her body of work on stage and screen. For the celebrated "Sex and the City" television series, Nixon's take as Type-A lawyer 'Miranda Hobbes' earned her an Emmy Award and two Emmy nominations over the show's six seasons. In 2008, the series was adapted into a mega-hit film, "Sex and the City: The Movie," and a subsequent sequel. In 2009, Nixon was awarded a Spoken Word Grammy for her recording of Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth." Additional film credits include "An Englishman in New York," "Lymelife," The Babysitters," Little Manhattan" and "One Last Thing."

On the small screen, she played Eleanor Roosevelt in "Warm Springs," which earned her a SAG Award and Golden Globe and Emmy nominations. Her most recent television work has included a guest arc on "Law & Order: SVU," a role which earned her an Emmy Award for Guest Actress in a Drama Series. Additional appearances include "House," "ER," and "Papa's Angels."

On stage, Nixon, a Tony Award winner for her turn in "Rabbit Hole," appeared most recently in the Roundabout Theatre production of Lisa Loomer's "Distracted." Additional theater credits include "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie," "The Women," "The Philadelphia Story," "Hurlyburly," and "The Real Thing."

THE BIG C stars Three-time Academy Award(R) nominee, three-time Emmy(R) winner and three-time Tony Award(R) nominee Laura Linney as Cathy, a repressed suburban teacher, wife and mother who reclaims her life after a terminal cancer diagnosis. Oliver Platt (2012) stars as her immature, but well-meaning husband. Oscar(R) nominee Gabourey Sidibe plays a smart-alecky student in Cathy's class.

THE BIG C is created and written by Darlene Hunt, who serves as executive producer, along with Showrunner Jenny Bicks, Laura Linney, Neal H. Moritz and Vivian Cannon. It is produced by Sony Pictures Television. Acclaimed writer/director/producer Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) directed the pilot.
