ACADEMY AWARD(R)-NOMINATED ACTRESS ROSIE PEREZ TO STAR IN LIFETIME MOVIE NETWORK'S LIES IN PLAIN SIGHT (wt)

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 16, 2010) - Academy Award(R)-nominated actress Rosie Perez (Fearless, Do the Right Thing, Pineapple Express), ALMA Award winner Benito Martinez (The Shield, Saving Grace), Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill), Christoph Sanders (Ghost Whisperer), Martha Higareda (Street Kings) and Yul Vasquez (The A-Team) are set to star in the Lifetime Movie Network Original Movie Lies in Plain Sight (wt). The film, which starts production this month in Los Angeles, is scheduled to premiere in the fall on Lifetime Movie Network, Lifetime's sister network.

Lies in Plain Sight tells the story of Ava and her blind cousin Sofia (Higareda), who were inseparable as children, with Ava the loyal companion who helped Sofia through her tough adolescent years. When Ava suddenly commits suicide, Sofia rushes home to her father Hector (Martinez) and Ava's parents Marisol (Perez) and Rafael (Vasquez) to find answers. But as she delves into Ava's life, questioning her past boyfriends Ethan (Murray) and Christian (Sanders), the more Sofia realizes that their childhood was actually filled with dark disturbing secrets.

Perez got her big break when writer/director Spike Lee cast her in his searing, critically-acclaimed motion picture Do the Right Thing, for which she was also choreographer. Shortly thereafter, Perez was the choreographer for the Fly Girls on the groundbreaking comedy/variety series In Living Color, which earned her an Emmy(R) nomination. Later, she was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe(R) in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role opposite Jeff Bridges in Peter Weir's Fearless. Perez's other film credits include White Men Can't Jump, Pineapple Express, Perdita Durango, Human Nature, Riding in Cars with Boys, The 24-Hour Woman. Her performance in The Take earned her a nomination for an Independent Spirit Award, and her role in Lackawanna Blues earned her a 2006 NAACP Image Award Nomination for Outstanding Actress in a TV Movie. Her television resume includes roles on Law & Order: SVU and Lipstick Jungle.

Perez made her Broadway debut in the hit revival of Terrence McNally's Frankie & Johnnie and she recently received rave reviews for her performance in The Ritz on Broadway. She also received critical acclaim for her directorial debut, Yo Soy Boricua Pa'Que Tu Lo Sepas! As a producer, Perez's credits include The 24-Hour Woman, HBO's Rosie Perez Presents Society's Ride and Subway Stories. Throughout her career, she has been a vocal activist for a number of causes, especially those related to AIDS and inner-city youth. She served as the National Spokesperson for Comite Noviembre and currently is the head of the Artistic Board for the Urban Arts Partnership. Perez is also currently serving on the Presidential Council for HIV and AIDS (PACHA).

Originally from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Martinez is widely recognized as "David Aceveda," the multi-faced Los Angeles politician from the award-winning police drama The Shield. He has earned international acclaim for his work on the show, including the 2007 ALMA Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Television Series. Martinez's passion for entertaining started at the age of eight playing the vihuela in his father's mariachi group. He went on to graduated from Hollywood High Performing Arts Magnet and study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts before securing notable small screen series including The Shield and recurring roles as "U.S. President Castillo" on The Unit and "Ronnie" on Saving Grace. In addition, Martinez has had guest starring roles on a number of television series, such as Shark, NYPD Blue, Burn Notice, Monk, Numb3rs, Bones and 24. Most recently, he can be seen in The Dry Land, opposite America Ferrera.
