Unit Out at Cbs, "House Rules" Staffing

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- CBS has pulled the plug on its Sunday drama "The Unit."
The series, along with "Cold Case" and "Without a Trace," had been pegged for cancellation as the Eye makes room for new blood in its 2009-10 season slate.
Executive producer Shawn Ryan has already been tapped as the new showrunner of FOX's "Lie to Me" while former co-executive producer Frank Military is behind "US Attorney," a pilot under consideration for midseason at CBS.
Also on the newcomer front: the Eye has given the producers of "House Rules" the go ahead to begin staffing, a solid sign the series is on track for a series commitment.
Fellow pilots "The Good Wife," "Miami Trauma," "Three Rivers" and the "NCIS" spin-off got a similar nod over the weekend before receiving a firm green light yesterday.
"US Attorney" likewise is currently staffing however no formal pickup has been made.
"Rules," a drama about the freshman class of elected representatives in Washington, stars Anna Chulmsky, Denzel Whitaker, Eion Bailey, Kristin Bauer, Sean Bridgers, Tawny Cypress, Warren Christie and Zoe McLellan. ABC Studios is behind the Mark Gordon-produced hour, which Daniel Minahan directed from a script by Michael Seitzman.
