LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- NBC has rolled back its full season commitment to "Knight Rider" to 17 episodes, network sources confirmed today.
In addition, the Peacock has asked for an extra installment of "ER," bringing its season total to 20 hours.
The news comes on the heels of today's midseason scheduling announcement (read the story) by the network.
"Knight" will return on January 7 with eight new episodes while "Knight Fever" - an episode that was shot between "A Knight In Shining Armor" and "Journey to the End of the Knight" but never aired - is set for December 31.
The cut is undoubtedly tied to the show's fading ratings - "Knight" averaged a modest 1.5 rating among adults 18-49 during the November sweeps period.
As for "ER," the additional episode will allow the series to be pre-empted just once (on January 29) after its final countdown begins on January 8.
"ER's" two-hour series finale airs Thursday, March 12 at 9:00/8:00c.
