|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
AR2 (FX, New!) - "Prison Break" creator Paul Scheuring and "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" alum Thomas Schlamme are set to team for a new drama at the cable channel about a group of youths in Michigan who spark a second American Revolution. It's understood the project, which is believed to be set up at Fox 21, will explore how the revolting college students, not to mention the military and the law enforcement officers who oppose them, perceive patriotism. The pair then will executive produce via their respective banners Mercator Pictures (with partner Matt Fiorell) and Shoe Money (with Julie DeJoie). No other details were given.
BEAUTY AND THE GEEK (The CW) - Fox 21, 3 Ball Productions and Katalyst Films are reportedly in talks with MTV about reviving the series, which ran for five seasons between The WB and The CW. It's believed that the revived incarnation will be a celebrity-themed edition, in which average geeks compete for semi-famous vixens. MTV is no stranger to "Geek," having carried off-network repeats of the show in recent years. Casting is underway with an eye towards a six-episode order. Ashton Kutcher, Jason Goldberg, JD Roth, Nick Santora and Todd A. Nelson are the executive producers.
CSI: MIAMI (CBS) - Sean "Diddy" Combs has booked a two-episode arc on the Monday franchise. He'll play a prosecutor who does not get along with David Caruso's Horatio Caine. It's not clear when his first episode will air.
GEORGIA O'KEEFFE (Lifetime) - Ed Begley Jr., Tyne Daly, Linda Emond and Henry Simmons have joined the cast of the original movie, which will follow the 20-year love affair between the American artist (Joan Allen) and photographer Alfred Stieglitz (Jeremy Irons). Begley plays Alfred's doctor brother, Lee; with Daly as fellow artist Mabel Dodge Stern; Emond as Georgia's friend Beck; and Simmons as Jean Toomer, a writer with whom Georgia has an affair later in her life. Bob Balaban is helming the Sony Pictures Television/City Entertainment-based project from a script by Michael Cristofer. Alixandre Witlin, Joshua D. Maurer and Allen herself are the executive producers with Tony Mark producing.
THE MIDDLE (ABC) - The network has greenlit production on the revamped comedy pilot, which tells the story of a middle-class Midwestern family through the eyes of the mother (Patricia Heaton). Said order had been contingent on executive producers DeAnn Heline and Eileen Heisler closing Heaton's deal. Julie Anne Robinson has also been tapped to direct the single-camera comedy, which comes from Warner Bros. Television. In addition, Robinson has landed a blind commitment at ABC Studios to helm another pilot this development cycle. Production is set to begin in February. Ricki Lake toplined the original incarnation, which also starred Atticus Shafer, Brenna O'Brien, Lex Medlin and Michael Mitchell with Chris Koch directing.
UNTITLED GREG DANIELS/MICHAEL SCHUR PROJECT (NBC) - "The Office" alum Rashida Jones is the latest addition to Greg Daniels and Mike Schur's once-but-not-anymore "Office" spin-off. She'll play - in the first details to emerge about the project - Ann Logan, a nurse whose boyfriend has a strange injury, one which subsequently thrusts her into the world populated by the previously cast Amy Poehler and Aziz Ansari. Universal Media Studios is behind the half-hour, which has yet to announce a production start date.
