MTV'S CREATIVE DEMOCRACY UNVEILS NEW EXPERIMENTAL & INVENTIVE SHORT FORM IDEAS THAT PLAY ON EVERY SCREEN
New York, NY March 25, 2008 It is creative democracy in action! MTV today introduced a new slate of short form projects that speak to the network's longstanding commitment to empowering creativity and incubating experimental, unique & compelling content on every platform and screen. These projects include the web-based comedy series "North Palm Wrestling" which will make its on-air debut March 25th at 11:30pm ET/PT on MTV. MTV also officially introduces mobile series "Anton & Crapbag," "Damien's Other Show" and "hoodFab."
"We live in a creative time when inspired people can realize their ideas and instantaneously share them with the world," said Brian Graden, President, Entertainment, MTV Networks Music Group. "MTV has a long history of incubating extraordinary finds, creating resonance on multiple platforms, and evolving projects into cultural phenomenon, and we look forward to doing the same with our latest creative partners."
Today's projects are just the latest in a long line of short form projects created by MTV. Recently MTV unveiled other short form series "Dances From Tha Hood" and "Sway's Hip Hop Owner's Manual." Similarly, MTV has a longstanding history of turning web-based content into cultural TV hits including "A Shot At Love with Tila Tequila," "Human Giant," "The Andy Milonakis Show," and "Scarred" among others.
Following are descriptions of the short form projects:
North Palm Wrestling - Consisting of high school friends Jason Selvig, Gregory Kohn, John Anderson, and Ben Buzard, North Palm Wresling is a silly, yet sardonic show that pokes fun at the world around us. It's fast and furious, with sketches that range from scathing political satire to complete and total absurdity. Designed as a short form internet show, NPW attempts to make 5-6 minute videos that tap into the viral video explosion on the web. Web series soft launched early Feb on www.northpalmwrestling.mtv.com and is set to premiere episodes 2&3 on MTV on March 25th at 11:30 after "Human Giant."
Damien's Other Show - Damien Fahey, longtime host of MTV's flagship program "TRL" (Total Request Live), is bringing himself to your cell phone with "Damien's Other Show" a bi-weekly 2-5 minute quick fix of man-on-the-street comedy bits and sketches created by and starring Fahey. The thirteen-episode "season" is available now via MTV Mobile and will be available on mobile carriers AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, Alltel and Helio as well as on MTV.com.
Anton and Crapbag - A short-form made-for-mobile series that features two claymation character Anton and Crapbag who are obsessed with Jackass. In each episode they try different Jackass-esque stunts that inevitably end in disaster. From March through the end of May, MTV2 will premiere one episode weekly at 10:58pm ET/PT. Each episode is 2-4 minutes long. At the end of May, MTV2 will air a special 12th episode as a 30 minute compilation special (this will also air on MTV Tr3s). The compilation special will air simultaneously on the MTV live-streaming linear television channel on VCAST TV. "Anton and Crapbag" is from writer/producer/director Eric Fogel, the creator of popular MTV series "Celebrity Deathmatch."
hoodFAB Mobile series premiering on MTV2 and MTV Jams was originally a short-form hip hop trivia game show for wireless. It's shot on the streets in a gritty down and dirty fashion. The host seeks out two contestants and tests their knowledge of hip hop with a series of questions. The game is about 3 minutes long and at the winner is deemed hood rich and given a hood rich prize. On Monday, March 17th at 6:00 PM ET/PT "hoodFAB" returned to MTV Jams as they hit the streets in Miami's South Beach, and Carol City with appearances from Birdman, Fat Joe, Flo-Rida, Pitbull, Dre of Cool and Dre, DJ Khaled, and Rick Ross. On MTV2, "hoodFAB" aired from March 17th March 20th.
