HBO received 21 Primetime Emmy Awards, the most of any network, in the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards competition. The awards received by the network this year reflect the diversity of HBO's original programming, ranging from series to original movies to documentaries.

Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee topped HBO's list of winners with 6 awards, while The Sopranos, When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts and Rome each received 3 awards.

HBO's Emmy wins this year include:

* 6 Emmys overall for Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, including Outstanding Made for Television Movie, Outstanding Makeup for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special (Non-Prosthetic), Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Miniseries or a Movie, Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Miniseries or a Movie, Outstanding Sound Editing for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special, and Outstanding Cinematography for a Miniseries or Movie.

* 3 Emmys overall for The Sopranos, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (Alan Taylor), and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series (David Chase).
