ABC NEWS RECEIVES 15 NEWS EMMY NOMINATIONS

ABC News has received 15 News Emmy nominations from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, it was announced today by the Academy. The Awards will be presented on Monday, September 24, 2007 in New York City.

"World News with Charles Gibson" received seven nominations for a range of stories, including the Amish school shootings, the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and the "Home Front" -- a series of reports on the challenges service members face once they leave the battlefield and return home. The broadcast also received a nomination for "The Blind Trumpeter," the story of an eighteen year-old student who, despite being blind and wheelchair-bound, played trumpet in his school's marching band.

ABC News and Diane Sawyer received an Emmy nomination for their reporting on foster care -- "A Call to Action: Saving Our Children" on "Primetime," "Good Morning America" and "Nightline." Spearheaded by Sawyer, ABC News devoted two days of programming in June 2006 to the important national story. Sawyer also received a nomination for a "20/20" report, "Abuse Behind Closed Doors," that examined domestic violence.

Chief Investigative Correspondent Brian Ross and the ABC News Investigative Team received five nominations, including two for "Conduct Unbecoming," a year-long series of broadcast and online reports that revealed a pattern of unbecoming and unethical behavior in official Washington -- from Supreme Court justices to CIA officials to congressmen. The broadcast reports, which aired on "World News with Charles Gibson" and "Nightline," culminated in the revelation that Congressman Mark Foley was sending sexually explicit instant messages to former congressional pages a story that was first reported on ABCNEWS.com. Ross and the Investigative Unit also received nominations for their reporting on the UK airliner plot on "Good Morning America," "World News" and "Nightline"; the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi on "World News"; and an investigation into Nigerian email scams on "20/20."

"Nightline" received an additional nomination for its continued coverage of the tragic Amish school shootings in Nickel Mines, PA. The broadcast was anchored from Nickel Mines, and correspondent John Donvan provided compelling reports, including an interview with the Pennsylvania Police Commissioner.

"Good Morning America" received three nominations, including one for "Thirteen Around the World," a global reporting project in which ABC News producers, reporters and crews spanned the globe to interview thirteen-year-old girls on several continents.

"20/20" received four nominations in total, including one for "A Simple Twist of Fate" that documented an African boy's life for three years. The broadcast was also nominated for graphic and artistic design for "The Last Days on Earth," a documentary on the greatest threats to humanity.

ABC News' Special Report received a nomination for graphic and artistic design for "Farewell to a President: Gerald R. Ford 1913-2006."
