Development Update: Friday, January 5
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

DIRT (FX) - A stellar 3.7 million total viewers tuned into the show's launch on Tuesday, including 2.4 million adults 18-49 and 1.2 million adults 18-34. Said numbers in the key adults 18-49 demographic were on par with the launch of "Rescue Me" (2.5 million) in 2004 and above the bow of "Nip/Tuck" (2.0 million) in 2003.

FAMILY GUY (FOX) - Production has resumed on the show's sixth season following a two-month delay. The decision comes as producer 20th Century Fox Television and creator/executive producer Seth MacFarlane resume talks on a new overall deal. Said pact would cover MacFarlane's voice and producing duties on "Guy" as well as "American Dad" and the upcoming "The Winner." It's not clear if the production gap will cause a delay in episodes being delivered. "Guy," like most animated series, works well ahead of its broadcast cycle as season five of the series just began airing on the network.

LAST HORSEMAN (AMC, New!) - "Broken Trail" star and Golden Globe nominee Thomas Haden Church is developing a new mini-series at the cable channel. Set in the Southwest in the late 1800s, the four-hour project will track an African-American cowboy as he exacts revenge for the murder of his parents. Church will co-write the script and executive produce alongside David Denny.

Commitment: Script
Cast: TBA
Writers: David Denny, Thomas Haden Church
Director: TBA
Executive Producers: David Denny, Thomas Haden Church
Studio: TBA

UNTITLED WALTER HILL PROJECT (AMC, New!) - "Broken Trail" director Walter Hill is developing a new Western-themed drama pilot at the cable channel following the success of "Trail." No other specifics were given about the project, which he'll co-write and executive produce alongside Ron Parker ("Joan of Arc") as well as direct should it move forward.

Commitment: Script
Cast: TBA
Writers: Ron Parker, Walter Hill
Director: Walter Hill
Executive Producers: Ron Parker, Walter Hill
Studio: TBA
