SHOWTIME's Hilarious 'LAUGH OUT LOUD' Comedy Platform To Premiere January 2007
Diverse Slate of Original, Monthly Comedy Specials To Feature Comedians
Mo'Nique, Sarah Silverman, Alex Reymundo, Joe Rogan and Others
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 4 -- The new SHOWTIME LAUGH OUT LOUD
comedy platform features new comedy specials monthly as the network
continues its long tradition of presenting some of the biggest names in the
world of comedy with their own hilarious television specials. Beginning in
January 2007, SHOWTIME'S LAUGH OUT LOUD will feature cutting-edge comedians
as diverse as Mo'Nique, Sarah Silverman, Alex Reymundo, Joe Rogan and
others, in a series of side-splitting comedy specials airing each month.
The SHOWTIME LAUGH OUT LOUD platform is a new programming initiative
which continues the network's stellar track record of offering bold, uncut
and unedited comedy found only on premium television. SHOWTIME has
premiered popular, provocative specials from comedians such as Dave
Chappelle ("For What It's Worth"), George Lopez ("Why You Crying?"), Mario
Cantone ("Laugh Whore"), and Christopher Titus ("Norman Rockwell is
Bleeding") that have all wowed audiences and pushed the boundaries of
televised comedy.
SHOWTIME'S LAUGH OUT LOUD will mark the world television premieres of
MO'NIQUE: I COULDA BEEN YOUR CELLMATE; ALEX REYMUNDO'S "HICK-SPANIC: LIVE
IN ALBUQUERQUE;" THE ORIGINAL LATIN DIVAS OF COMEDY; and JOE ROGAN: LIVE,
as well the U.S. television premiere of SARAH SILVERMAN: JESUS IS MAGIC,
which was released theatrically to critical acclaim last year. Additional
titles will be announced at a later date. Following are upcoming SHOWTIME
LAUGH OUT LOUD descriptions and premiere dates:
MO'NIQUE: I COULDA BEEN YOUR CELLMATE - Jan. 6th at 9 pm PT/ET
Comic sensation Mo'nique brings her big and bold brand of humor where
no other female comedienne has gone before - The Ohio Reformatory for Women
- a correctional facility for female felons. Over two days, Mo'Nique spends
time with the inmates, and gives them a break from their sentences with her
hilarious stand-up performance.
SARAH SILVERMAN: JESUS IS MAGIC - February 2007
Often compared to Lenny Bruce and Andrew Dice Clay for her
unapologetic, politically incorrect style, Sarah Silverman has been called
one of comedy's most provocative and creative personalities. In the film,
Silverman performs her act before a sometimes-shocked but ever-amazed live
audience and tackles such taboo topics as 9/11, the Holocaust and bigotry
and spins them into comic gold.
ALEX REYMUNDO'S "HICK-SPANIC: LIVE IN ALBUQUERQUE" - March 2007
"HICK-SPANIC: LIVE IN ALBUQUERQUE" is Alex Reymundo's debut one-hour
comedy special. One of the "Original Latin Kings of Comedy" (which
originally premiered on SHOWTIME), Reymundo delves into growing up an
immigrant in a large, Mexican family in the South. Alex delivers the punch
at every turn leaving the audience with only one conclusion: there is a new
Latin breed of comedy in town and it's Alex Reymundo.
JOE ROGAN: LIVE - April 2007
Best known as the acerbic host of the long-running "Fear Factor"
reality series, Joe Rogan has become a rising star on the stand-up circuit.
He's a former Taekwondo champ and all-around bad boy who first made a name
for himself on television with appearances on "The Man Show" and
"NewsRadio." In this blistering performance, Rogan delivers devastating
comic blows -- skewering everything from Noah's Ark to Osama bin Laden --
in a set that shows no mercy.
THE ORIGINAL LATIN DIVAS OF COMEDY - May 2007
Taking the torch from their African-American sisters, this comedy
special spotlights Latina comediennes Marilyn Martinez, Monique Marvez,
Sara Contreras and Sandra Valls. Filmed in San Bernardino at the historic
California Theatre, the ladies have been collectively honing their
respective crafts for decades and are at the top of their game. In the
documentary portion of the film, we are introduced to these four women in a
way that not only spotlights their on- stage skills, but also allows the
audience to see the origins of their culturally inspired comedy.
